They did the same thing here. The British sent over containers (the big shipping kind) full of rations for the hurricane Katrina releif effort. However, because they were not approved by our FDA (Food and Drug Administration), the rations were not distributed to the people they were snet to help. Instead, they were all destroyed. Nothing like cementing good diplomatic relations with our allies by destroying their attempts to aid us.

My mistake then. I had seen this story reported on a number of sites and in the news. I didn't go to Snopes to verify it. I thought with the coverage it had gotten it was a real event.

P.S. I guess I was not the only in error about this. It was posted on here back in September.

About half way down the page in Demolition Man's post, the rejection of some foreign rations is discussed.

I just checked Snopes.com and couldn't find anything about that story being false (or true). I do recall reading a number of stories about the British rations being impounded last year. Of course, that's no guarantee that the original story wasn't false. I did a quick google search and here's at least one story:

Tons of British aid donated to help Hurricane Katrina victims to be BURNED by Americans
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/tm_objecti ... _page.html

So DangerousDave, do you have links that can help clear this up?

No

It's just a bunch of crap. Show me the evidence, not including photos of EPA's from some place, being unloaded off an aircraft. What company with a huge incinerator located in Arkansas did the burning? I did'nt know us Americans made incinerators for burning boxed food. Maybe Walmart has such a facility? 8)

The more I try to find out more information about this story, the more skeptical I'm becoming (as opposed to DangerousDave, who already seems well-entrenched in his skepticism :-) ). When I google for "british rations katrina" almost all the results quote that original mirror.co.uk sotry that is unverified. I did find this one story:

http://fdd.typepad.com/fdd/2005/10/rich ... son_8.html

that says the rations are still in a warehouse in Arkansas but I'm starting to wonder if even that is true.

Kman,

I want to thank you for investigating this further. My access at work (on base) is limited. So, I cannot search much there. At least I am not the only one that thought this story was true...at one time.
