What I really meant is when you go for a hike or camping what kind of portable stove do you use. For example, I have a jetboil compact stove but also a MSR whisperlight stove.

I always have my ESBIT stove with me


it´s not this effective as a Jetboil, but to heat up a ration or a hot beverage, it´s OK.

In my vehikle I always have my US ration heater at hand


If we errect a camp site, we use these:

Enders cookers with pot set.

I didn´t dare to use one of these

I can get them over here at an outdoor store for €170 (USD 221)

Ah yes, the famous MRE rations heater. I did manage to get a 1st generation off of Ebay last year and spent a lot of money on the 2nd generation ration heater for my jeep. From all those photos you submitted over the years it looks like you'll be able to survive with no problem. Even if it is a "Bug In" type of emergency. With the Esbit cookers, I'm not sold on them yet. I have a real one I picked up from Ebay but I planned to use that as an absolute last resort. In one photo you mention the Enders cooker with pot set on what appears to be a Primus Stove. Is that the case or is it something else? I really don't know enough about Primus stoves but I hear there absolutely indestructable and can get hot real fast. Are they standard issue in the German Armed Forces?

Yeah, I have a ammo can BBQ myself (7.62mm). Mine isn't that fancy in the photo but I have cooked over it. It's very compact and can take a lot of abuse. They are also very cheap to pick up if you know where to look.

Brian, I probably have 30 of those cans, most filled with...ammo!
And one filled with 20 years accumilation of gun cleaning stuff, lost somewhere in the Garage... Somewhere...in... the... PILE
Biggest version I have is the .45 cal box.
I do have a us army tent stove, BNIB, one of those round ones, maybe 2 feet wide. used to get them for $99, awhile ago.
I'd need a pretty big tent for that one...

Actually I´m a big fan of military stuff and have *lot´s* of it. So it´s a nice coincidence my hobby may help me survive some day

That´s the never used, 1966 made, pot set that comes with it



The stove heat´s up the whole pot of water in ~10min. During cold war, it was standsrd issued to each group/platoon. Vehikles had a mounting where to store it.
