Surplus availability and legal issues
I'm curious; what are the legal policies on selling and purchasing military surplus in the other countries who are represented in forums? Here in America, conspiracy theorists have pointed to legislation in the past as an effort by politicians to outlaw most surplus for fear that the evil Michigan Militia or other equally fictitious threat will stockpile it for Civil War 2. Here we can pretty much have anything that is not considered obviously a hazard, i.e. no sales of 155mm. Sarin artillery rounds, no sale of live hand grenades, etc.

In Hungary it's different.Buying military uniforms and equipment is no problem. But I think we have the second strictest gun law in Europe.Chances that you get a permission for a pistol for self defense is close to zero. You have to prove that your life is in danger and even then is not guaranteed. As a sport shooter you can buy one but you are not allowed to wear it or keep it at home. You can own deactivated military weapons (even machine guns) with a certificate of origin and deactivation.

Well, thats very efficient!
When the Russians invade (again), you'll just have to throw yourselves in front of the tanks.
Wait... this was tried before, and just made the tank tracks messy...
Here, we can own most semi-automatic guns, (except those that are 'Black and Nasty looking' ...E: m16, HK91, MP5 etc.
But we can not have deactivated automatic weapons...

In the wake of the terrible events in Connecticut today, our politicians may decide that guns are too dangerous to allow law abiding citizens to carry. Imagine how things may have turned out and how many precious children would still be alive if just one or two people were carrying firearms?

That's not correct.Hungary alone didn't have a chance. But they killed many Russian soldiers and destroyed many tanks.Well, thats very efficient!

between 23 October – 10 November 1956.Over 2,500 Hungarians and 700 Soviet troops were killed in the conflict,

When the SHTF you find weapons. As you could see it in Yugoslavia.
Re: Surplus availability and legal issues
Something is wrong in the US.Don't get me wrong, I don't want to insult you.I like guns.I can't help, I was born like that.I am against a gun ban or a restrictive gun law.In most cases criminals use illegal weapons anyway. In the wake of the terrible events in Connecticut today, our politicians may decide that guns are too dangerous to allow law abiding citizens to carry. Imagine how things may have turned out and how many precious children would still be alive if just one or two people were carrying firearms?
BUT military weapons (full or semi auto) are not for civilians, not for the average "John Smith".I'm referring to videos on YouTube.Teens shooting AKs,M4s...
I know, It's not the weapon that kills it's the man who pulls the trigger.
I don't want to get into this too deeply. We could discuss till the end of time.

as to the terrible things in connecticut,be ready for the s""""tstorm, because the politicians are.obama with the fake tears, tony blair did the same in the uk ,at dunblane.this is the excuse they have been waiting so long for.
there are a great deal of parallels with dunblane, young school children ,an afleunt middle class area, and a new anti gun government hungery for change.i hope you all come though this unchanged, because in the uk when the papers and the politians were finished gun was a dirty word and you were made feel even dirtier for wanting to own one..

Re: Surplus availability and legal issues
I agree, but the US is a bit different than the UK.tony blair did the same in the uk ,at dunblane.this is the excuse they have been waiting so long for.
In the UK gun crime increased after the gun ban showing that there is no connection between gun crime and legal weapons.Even new weapons like MAC 10 subs showed up on the streets in the hands of criminals involved in drugs.Tell me if I'm mistaken.I read this years ago when there was a debate over here about easing our strict gun law and self defense rights.
Politicians don't want people to have guns. They fear the people.
Re: Surplus availability and legal issues
i agree,us and uk are slightly different, not much. but politians are the same the world over,be it an african third world an arab oil state or the usa.these guys dont see the pain and suffering, they only see opportunities to push their ideas of utopia.

USA does not equal youtube...Woodland wrote:

.
Full auto and other mil type items are highly restricted.
Even normal firearms are very restricted depending on your state.
Not only by age but by your moral standing. (Gotta be a good guy)
Of course the problem is bad guys dont care about the rules and do what they want giving the rest a bad name.
As far as surplus you can get Curio and relic papers, this will allow you to personally own military items that are otherwise restricted as long as they fit certain requirements.
CCW is a another story and even more restrictions on top of everything else.
