Yes luis I can imagine that the fire fighters were pretty scared, I know I would be! Here in America, military sites that stored or still store conventional and chemical weapons for "de-militarizing" have a special training program with the local fire and EMS units from the surrounding towns so that they know what to do just in case.

Re: EOD at former US Airfield
one of my hobbies is reseaching and tracking down crashed planes in the hills of scotland, and sometimes they carry ordnance, one time we found a hudson bomber crash site in lowland scotland, there was the usual scars and small pieces of aluminium, but not a lot on the surface we did a detector search and got a got reading and started to dig, with the first cut of the shovel,my friend took off the tail of a 25 lb bomb,we uncovered it and found it was on a rack with 4 other bombs .we got the bomb disposal team in(a navy one this time) and because it was remote they blew it up on site.ah fun days

sodjer, you and I have somewhat similar hobbies, although mine is finding cold war sites (former AT&T bunkers, air defense radar sites, etc.), and it is amazing what you can find here in my neck of the woods if you're willing to take back roads and out of the way towns. Also you can find some amazing stories about cold war accidents and events in western Massachusetts: for example in the early 1960s, an F-106 interceptor crashed into the Quabbin Reservoir and the area was sealed off because the plane was carrying a genie air-to-air nuclear missile. The fear was that the impact had caused the weapon to "break open" and cause severe radioactive contamination, but about 3 days later according to "official sources" the genie was found to be an inert training device, same weight with no warhead.

hi rationtin 440,at present ,im trying to get dimensions and sizes for a bunker key to allow access to all the smaller bunkers(they were "left"in 1991)and nobody has been at them since.
as to crashs we had a us super sabre crash in the highlands in 1956,it was carrying a nuke, when the pilot relised he was going to crash,he gave up his chance of survival to salvo the nuke,it landed in a small river and buried its self in and the river carried on.the USAF took 3 days to find the bomb.the whole engine and part of the fusalage are still on that bleak hill side.

Well sodjer, I have a friend who works for AT&T at an underground AUTOVON switching center, and he has wanted to give me a tour of the place many times, but as it is still an active facility and he would rather not go to jail, he's told me that when AT&T replaces everything with fiber-optic stuff, he might be able to get me inside as the place will be shut down and "de-activated." Unfortunately here in New England, most of these type places are either sealed with cement or otherwise rendered inaccessible after AT&T is done with them because of the lead shielding and asbestos insulation in most of them. If you would like to check out these places sodjer, this link is pretty cool.http://coldwar-c4i.net

Very wise move to provide for your family housil! Back in the 1990s when our government was going after "evil militia groups"
there was legislation in congress, some of which was passed and signed into law, to outlaw the sale of these items you mention. Surplus stores would have a date to turn over everything ABC related, and possession of the stuff by citizens would be outlawed as well. Even today, there are no longer any online sites to buy this stuff. Looks like your own government takes better care of you and respects your basic rights since you're able to get that stuff.

Can you cite something to show that? I don't think that's true. You can buy M17A1 and M17A2 NBC masks on eBay or Bonanza or other sites and I personally bought mine from a surplus store here in Bozeman just two or three years ago. You can buy NBC suits from a ton of places like mredepot.com. We can buy geiger counters, potassium iodide, etc - I'm not aware of any laws at all out there that keep US Citizens from being prepared for the possibility of NBC attacks.rationtin440 wrote:Very wise move to provide for your family housil!
