Post by Ration Fan » Thu Sep 06, 2012 9:37 am

Hi!
This was the first MRE I ever had.
It´s menu 19(beef roast with vegetables).
Contents:
-Beef Roast with Vegetables
-Applesauce
-Crackers
-Chocolate peanut butter
-Vanilla pound cake
-Cocoa beverage powder
-Acessory Pack(the normal things and instant coffee)
-FRH
-Hot beverage bag

The beef roast:

It was ok, but not my taste.
It has a smoke flavour in it.
The vegetables were good.

Crackers with chocolate peanut butter:

Very nice!
The crackers alone:good!
With chocolate peanut butter:yum! :D

Vanilla pound cake:

For a cake that comes out of a plastic pack:Very nice!

Cocoa:

Good and sweet!

Applesauce:

This is what we in Germany call "Apfelmus".
It was very sweet.
I liked it, but I prefer german "Apfelmus". :)

This was my review of the MRE menu 19(beef roast with vegetables).
Greetings
Brian

Very good pics and review Brian! The poundcake has always been a favorite of mine, and of course it is much nicer with the MRE poundcakes as there is no chance of getting green paint flakes from the can all over it which is something we had to deal with when my national guard unit was issued MCIs once upon a time. Another nice thing is the chocolate peanut butter, it is alot better than mixing the cocoa beverage powder with the peanut butter.

You're very welcome! :D I'm still amazed at all of the menu choices and side dish/dessert items with the latest MREs compared to even a few years ago.

One thing that I wish they would bring back, although it would probably not be the same, is the round chocolate disc that we got with some of the MCIs back in the day. And at least they were wrapped in foil so the green paint flakes would not get on them from the can.

I don´t know anything about this chocolate disc.
Do you have a photo or a link that can help me?

I can remember 1982 the tin foil wrapped disc´s but also the candy that came in a white "waxy" paper

Ok housil, now I'm getting nostalgic! I was referring to the chocolate disc that came in the silver wrap and had crispies in it, but I forgot about the chocolate fudge disc, which by the way seemed to cure any 'issues' caused by bad rations, according to a cousin of mine who served as a medic in Vietnam.
