So a couple of weeks ago I opened up a Menu 1 Chili with Beans from 2009 and when I checked the date code for the Chocolate Dairy Shake to make sure it's not a recalled one, what I found was the date code on the dairy shake says 0091. Could it mean that it's somehow from 2010 or is it from 2000? The Chili with Beans (9035) came from a Case A with a package date of 9075 and an inspection date of March 2012.
What is the reasoning for this? I checked all over dairy shake package and I did not find any other numbers or date codes.

That is bizarre!Werdna wrote:So a couple of weeks ago I opened up a Menu 1 Chili with Beans from 2009 and when I checked the date code for the Chocolate Dairy Shake to make sure it's not a recalled one, what I found was the date code on the dairy shake says 0091. The only other times I've seen year jumps between components was when some were end of the earlier year, and the rest were beginning of the next (which seems logical that it would happen).
Was the menu level bag tampered with at all? The only thing that occurs to me is that maybe someone removed the original shake (due to the recall), and replaced it.
I just checked Kman's awesome repository of info, and it appears that the shakes were introduced in 2002:

If that's correct, then yours appears to be a 2010 shake.
The pros will provide more info.

The important thing is the spices.

Re: Question about date codes
The first time the shakes showed up in MREs was in 2002 so I guess it´s unlikely they were from 2000.Werdna wrote: Could it mean that it's somehow from 2010 or is it from 2000?
But you are right, it´s weird to have a one year younger shake in there.

Re: Question about date codes
After the recall of the dairy shakes, exsisting stocks were reworked to replace the affected dairy shakes. If you have the shipping case it will be stamped with the letter "R" following the lot number

Yeah... I was wondering that myself. Here is a weird one. If I am unmistaken, this date code is claiming that these vegetable crackers are from the future. I have no idea how to read this date code. This lot was brand spankin new from some of the date codes that I was reading on some of the components. WHAT'S THE DEAL?

Re: Question about date codes
And another! Uhhh...
This was from a box that was only 2 months old when this was taken. (That is a shocker- I know)
Believe it or not. New MRE foodstuffs that are a mere couple of months old are fresher in flavor. They are totally different.
