"Defense foods" of Japan of WW2 era

Post by laughing_man » Sat May 26, 2012 5:13 am

"Defense foods (防衛食)" was made in Japan of WW2 era.
It is fundamentally the same as canned food.
However, metal is insufficient in Japan at that time.
Then, the canned food of the china was made.
The inside of a container of it is a vacuum.
It is opened by making a hole in the central part of a lid with a nail.

I got "Defense foods" which has not been opened yet.
I do not know the contents of that.
I think that it is meat, a fish, beans, etc.
It is food of 67 years or more ago.

Great find and pics laughing_man! I'm curious if you have been to the website http://www.reprorations.com and more specifically the Japan rations section. I was wondering how accurate you think those rations are, because I don't know enough about them to know if that is really what the Japanese soldiers had for rations during WW2.

I think that the Japanese ration of that site is very inaccurate.
I think that they misunderstood many things.

Thanks for the reply, laughing_man! I've heard many things about that website and while some stuff from other countries is accurate, I wonder if alot of it is more "theoretical" than actually based on what was available.

 The reddish water stains or what might be rust seems like whatever is inside will be rancid.

Reddish stains is rubber packing.
Supposing I eat contents, it is necessary to write a will beforehand
