Hi guys!!!!
OK, here's the deal I'm working on: Here in Bellevue we just had a mom-and-pop bakery open up just a hop skip and a jump away from my perimeter, and I am going to pay them to make me some nut cakes. I also have a friend who is an accomplished gourmet chef and he just opened up a place of his own a couple months ago and he can damn near make anything that you could think of, and if you haven't already thought of it, he'll have that recipe somewhere.
So I'm enlisting him into my mad, mad scheme of recreating my favorite MRE entree's. No longer must we be denied, troops!!!!

However, like any good plan of conquest, you need certain things to give the food geeks in the kitchen.
While I can certainly track down these recipes, it's a whole other thing to to try and describe the taste to the people I'm having do this, so what I am looking for are at least two samples each of : Beans With Tomato Sauce, Cherry Nut Cake, and Pork With Rice In Barbeque Sauce.

The purpose is twofold: 1. Buying a few samples of each will optimize my chances of opening a component that is still edible. 2. I want the chefs to TASTE said edible rations , they need to have it in order to know what they are getting themselves into.

I'm willing to pay cold hard cash to anybody out there who will be willing to part with these precious items. I know for me, it's asking alot- some of these are getting kinda rare, and I'd sooner sell my soul than part with a nut cake.
Still, one way or the other I plan on doing this thing. My tastebuds and my belly will accept nothing less than victory.

All parties looking to be complicit in my operation may PM me and we can hack out the details.
Seeing this post has really given me a boot in the ass. What an awesome thing to do!!!
Will post on my progress as it developes and share with all.
Carry On.

Heck, as long as folks are discussing what they'd love to see produced/re-produced, I'd love to get the chocolate crispie disks that we had in some of the MCIs before we were issued MREs. Those things were awesome, but I would not eat an original one now under any circumstances.

While we are at it, I loved the Maple nut cake.

It was a sad day for me when that and the meatballs rice and bbq sauce went away.

I may be alone here, but I also loved the old omelets too. I actually liked those dense things, especially spread with the cheese. MMMM
Back in about 1992 or so a local store had boxes of just entrees. They must have been surplussing off the ones that were being discontinued. I bought a bunch of the meatball and maple nut cakes. Now, I would have bought all the cases they had, but of course I have more fee cash than I did then.
I also liked those oatmeal cookie bars. That seems like a tougher one to replicate.

I wonder if your contact would also have the recipe for the Maple nut cakes?

Ok, sorry for that :( . Try it that way:

Open

http://www.assistdocs.com

go to

"Text Search"

go to

"Find document with all these words" enter the words "Maple Nut Cake"

Click on "Submit"

Click on "MIL-C-44071:…"

So the "pdf" will open..., it is possible to save it!

I hope that will work... :)

Very old thread here, but how do you go about requesting a recipe from Natick?

There are a number of discontinued ration components that I'd love to get the recipes for.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm also curious about that, although I wonder if it's already been asked. I'd like to try my hand at recreating some the discontinued deserts.
