luis0449 wrote:Well, here in Spain we say "feliz navidad" (merry Xmas) and we just don`t care about other people being offended or not. What we eat the most in my area is roast lamb but don`t get confused, I mean little sweet sucking lamb, of the small ones that have been feed nothing but milk straight from the sheep. Forget the ones feed with a mixture of water-flour-hormones, we take nothing of that. We also eat as much as we can of "turron" (nougat), marzipan, "chorizo" (spiced sausage"), pig loin, "morcilla" (blood pudding), "mantecados"(shortbread), dried nuts, and roasted chestnuts (ever since I was a little kid I can`t remember a christmas without chestnus), all this washed down with Ribera del Duero wine, and champagne being the french one called "champagne" or the one of spanish origin called "cava", as good as the french if not better. I know it`s a lot of calories but Burgos is one of the coldest cities in Spain. I hope you`ll understand, hahahaha :D

For most of the spaniards (and me among them) the really important day is not the 25th, but the night of the 24th (Nochebuena) which is when all the family get together for dinner and as we drink just a little too much you`ll se my father who is now 82yrs old stating how excellent food was during his time in the service (no MREs at the time) and arguing against everybody that he scored a bulls eye at 800 mts with a mauser (it can be possible, but he sould be an excellent shooter).

All the best people and Merry Christmas.

Note: The 1st of April is when everybody plays jokes on everybody all over the world but in Spain when it`s the 28th December. Be alert as luis0449 is a f***g bastard who is always playing jokes on that day.

Luis, Felicidades .Espero hayas pasado una buena Nochebuena y una linda Navidad...! You're right about the food. In my homeland Puerto Rico the celebrations are very similar to those in Spain well due to the historical relationship but with a puertorrican touch.
We have plenty of "pernil ( pork roast) or "lechón a la vara" ( a whole roasted pork on a stick), "arroz con gandules" ( rice with pigeon peas), "pasteles" ( similar to the mexican tamales but made with plantains not corn and wrapped in plantain leaves and boiled) and the famous "morcillas" ( blood sausages). All of this washed down with our traditional "pitorro" ( illegal moonshine),rum or "coquito" our traditional coconut eggnog spiced with rum.
For dessert we have "arroz con dulce" and "tembleque" ( coconut pudding), plenty of turrones of all varieties and our traditional cup of our coffee.... :D

Besides "Nochebuena" or Dec. 24th ( Christmas Eve ) and Dec. 28th "El Día de los Santos Inocentes"( "Day of the Holy Innocents") the other most important celebrations is "El Día de Los Santos Reyes" or the Three Kings Day ( Epiphany) on Jan.6th. Is mostly when the kids receive gifts if they left water and a shoebox full of grass for the Maggi horses.
Our Christmas celebrations is considered one of the longest because it lasts until Jan.14th which are the "Octavitas" or 8 days after Epiphany.

To all of you Merry Christmas, Felíz Navidad, Joyeux Noel,Fröhe Weihnachten,Craciun Fericit,С Рождеством Христовым,Glædelig jul...

To everyone here, Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year 2012. :D

Many thanks for your business and trades and I look forward to a even better new year. Perhaps with lots of MRE's?

Speaking of which, I must have been especially good this year and didn't even know it. Just by chance look what I managed to find:

photo 1 bottom) one case, still sealed and banded, 1979 MRE's with a paper instructions tags on the outisde of the case

photo 1 top) one case, still sealed and banded 1982 MRE's with paper instructions tags on the outside.

Photo 2) three cases of 1990 MRE's, still sealed and banded made by a well known manufacturer but never I have never seen these.

Photo 3) 38 near mint dark brown MRE's, made by different manufacturers.

Call it "divine intervention" or what but all I can say is I got really lucky.
