Hello everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster here.
For my first post here, I want to talk about buying MREs on Craigslist. Just recently I had bought myself two cases of 2008 MRE on Craigslist. They were case A and case B for $30 USD each. I have never eaten MREs that "old" so I was a little hesitant even though I know that they can last a long time. I think the main reason for my hesitation was because I didn't know what to expect since it was from Craigslist—despite having bought a 2009 case A before. So far from the 2008 case A, I have eaten the Beef Stew and the Veggie Burger. They both tasted just fine so I was worried for nothing.
So what I would like to know is have any of you ever bought an MRE on Craigslist and what was your experience? Also, what is the oldest MRE or combat ration that you have eaten?
P.S. I remember seeing a member on here that's from Garden Grove, California. It would be nice to meet you and perhaps trade for things.

Re: MRE on Craigslist
First of all, welcome to forums
Don´t worry about that "rookie" age

Current I´m eating all my 2002 cases. So having 9 years old MREs is normal to me. I never had a spoiled entree yet. Molded coffee or rancid crackers, but that´s the worst.Werdna wrote:

Re: MRE on Craigslist
2008s are young... They just hit their inspection date this year...
I thinkg the oldest MRE I ate was around 12-13 years old. It was a dark brown pouch corned beef hash. I didn't eat all of it, but it still tasted fine after all those years... Believe it or not, the cheese and crackers were still pretty decent... This is most likely since I've always stored the MREs in my basement which stays a relatively cool temperate...
