3-man hide position

Post by rationtin440 » Sat Nov 12, 2011 6:52 pm

I'm not sure how many airsoft or paintball players are in these forums, but I'm hoping that one of the UK members might be able to answer this. My fellow airsoft players and I are thinking of doing an alternate history WW3 kind of scenario, and I recall reading a British military magazine back in the late 1980s which described a 3-man hide position which I thought was very well done and easy to make. Unfortunately I cannot recall the exact name of the magazine or the article. Do any of our forum members from the UK have an idea of what the magazine was or the position I'm describing? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Now that I think about it, it may have been something called "Combat and Survival" but it was definately UK, because nearly every picture showed troops in the DPM pattern uniforms and 1980s PLCE as opposed to American stuff. Unfortunately I rarely got to do ccol stuff like dig fighting positions because I was assigned as a crewman on either an M-113 or M-577 ambulance/aid station track, and then later on a hummer ambulance, and we spent most of our time training for casualty care and triage.

Now that you mention that there was a magazine called just that "Combat Survival" it was more late 1980's to early 1990's and had lots of cool stuff, though it was more focused on survial situations and it had a British theme to it. Have you tried to check in AMAZON.com or just do a google search?

in the uk there was a magazine in the early 80 and it dealt with survival( the name escapes me)it was mainly a live off the land ,build a methane digestor and make your own tools type magazine, it went out of print about 1988 -1990(just after the self loading rifle ban  )
the other magazine is called combat and survival, and is still on the go, but its a military type mag( ie raids or soldier of fortune ),but the have aweb site and are trying to put thier older mags into an online archive, i hope this helps davy

Yes it helps, thanks very much sodjer. I've always thought that UK uniforms and gear and weapons were better than our stuff, not sure why but I fell in love with the FN-FAL rifle and I own a pre-ban version.

i had a beautiful L1A1(imperial british version of the FN FAL)accurised , tightened, with plastic furniture and a SUIT sight it could shoot 30 mm groups at 200 yds all day,our government got a bargin there, it cost me around £1000 they paid a lousy £ 150 for it as compensation.10 years later they took all our pistols , but they paid for those.

Hi,
in France you won't even get those lousy 150 quid, you have to pay to have your previously legaly owned gun neutralized or destroyed by the official services.

there was an outcry after the first ban (the self loading rifle ban),guns went missing ,guns went abroad, guns were handed in ,in pieces, guns were handed in with live rounds super glued in the breech, so the next ban was run different, and people were paid the value of there weapons, and you also got paid for holsters, reloading gear ,sights ,slings and dealers got the value plus 25%, the market was in taters anyway so every body took cash :|

Thanks for replies everyone! My thoughts and prayers for safety go out to you who are living in countries whose gun laws really give me nothing to complain about with ours here. I cannot imagine what it would have been like for the UK during ww2 if the home-guard had been completely dis-armed and Hitler's wehrmacht had decided to drop in. Sounds to me like Scotland and France have gun laws kinda like Illinois. :x
