I bring this up here because Kman makes a valid point concerning the RFID tags on cases of 2014 MRE's someone is selling. There is a very real effort to put RFID tags into everything. One idea was to have stores outfitted with RFID "systems" that would allow them to observe how long you, the customer, debates buying something before walking away. Then if you are observed walking back to the item the retail price can be changed remotely to "encourage" you to buy the product.

The intent is that mobile RFID "scanners" can simply drive through neighborhoods and literally read every product you have in your house or on your property. Even the packaging you toss in your metal trash cans, provided you still use those. Buy collecting the RFID information and cross-referencing it they can then determine what products you like and don't like. Then they can determine what junk mail to send you to encourage you to buy more stuff.

Basically, RFID scanners will invade your privacy like nothing else. They even plan on - if they haven't started already - to put them in your tires, clothes, even books! Keep in mind also that according to politicians if you say no thanks to government assistance and openly advocate self-reliance you are automatically deemed a potential threat. That's not paranoia, that's how politicians see it.

If anyone buys a case of MRE's with the RFID still attached I would highly recommend taking it off and tossing it some place other than in your trash. That may seem a bit much, may make some roll their eyes and chuckle, but would anyone rather have NIS or CID knocking on their front door at 3am?

I thought the same but both Walmart and Tesco are already working on the technology. Some RFID's are reportedly half the size of a grain of sand. Others are looking at sewing them into clothing.

Already, mobile x-ray trucks are roaming the streets in the U.S. like we have in Afghanistan/ Iraq to see through vehicles in order to detect contraband, weapons, and IEDs.

Some tags are self-powered. Others use the energy emitted in the scan to activate the tag, sending the information back to the scanner. The newest passports have these. You simply drive up to the border crossing and wave your passport at a scanner. Unfortunately, someone with with a scanner powerful enough can obtain the same information. This has raised concerns of identity theft resulting in the marketing of protective covers to keep your passport in.

There is even talk of a day when you can just walk into a store, grab something off the shelf and simply walk out. As you pass the RFID scanner at the exit the information from the tag is linked to an RFID chip in your credit, check, or debit card and the deduction automatically made.

Unless they are embedded in your skin I see no problem with them. The government is already able to view what you purchase just by looking at your bank and credit card records, so RFID products in products don't really scare me as much as an RFID tag in my arm.

Well of course it would be approved for implantation. However if this ever comes to pass where you are required to have one to purchase goods or anything like that, I think that's the time we need to pick up our rifles (if you've got em) and march to the capital.
