Spoiled #23 Chicken w/Cavatelli?

Post by housil » Tue Feb 15, 2011 3:18 pm

Today I opened for dinner a 2003 #23 Chicken w/Cavatelli.

I took the pouch out of the card board box and to my surpries

it wasn´t "tight" than usually
Image

it had something like an "air bubble" in
Image

you could move thrue the pouch

as the whole pouch seemed suspicious (swollen) to me, I decided better not to eat to avoid a possible botulism intoxication

No leaks, nor any little wholes etc. The pouch was still sealed and air proof. I pressed it together to make sure.

Today I opened the Pretzels from that spoiled Cavatelli Chicken.
The first thing I noticed, was a rancid smell out of the pouch.

Rancid pretzel sticks?!

Just as well that you did not try to consume any of the ration housil, I recall my horrible experience with the old brown MRE "turkey diced w/gravy" and I was severely dehydrated from it. ("medic down!" ) Tiny pinholes in the pouch and the stuff was not even leaking out, but our Vterinary Services people examined the pouches that I saved and that was the culprit. I guess that is why the cases are marked "do not rough handle when frozen" but pinholes would likely be an error at the packing facility.

That is the first time I have heard of spoiled pretzels though.
