Ammo boxes

Post by ak70g2 » Mon Dec 28, 2009 5:22 pm

Because I was accustomed with Warsaw Pact single use "meat can" ammo boxes, I ask you to give me some intel about NATO ammo boxes. Types, dimensions, materials, uses for storing/caching, surplus stores, etc. Any answer will be apreciated. Thank you.

I like the standard 50 cal. boxes,(also 5.56 bandolier box). Readily available in US, almost anywhere. Heres a pic of a double 50, like German EPA has a pic. of. Never actually saw one of these in 6 years service as Mechanized Infantry.

Ours (US Navy) came in a 100 round can, it took two to carry them up 4 levels to the guns.
2 twin fifties = 4 guns. And they were hungry...
We carried the guns up too... 97 pounds each as I recall... only 3 levels up for these!
Fun to shoot, a real pain to maintain, in a salt water environment...
The best box is the one for .45 ACP (long obsolete), big square thing! Wish I had more...
I was riding this bad boy...

I've spoken with my MRE "provider" (a good friend of mine who get me MREs, knives, all things outdoor related) and he told me to have some patience, he will be able to get me one or two for 100 euros each, delivered on my gate... :D

A questions for Germany: is a place where I can find some ex-Bundeswehr big plastic/fiberglass Milan missile boxes? The big green ones, with latches on all for sides, 1.20x1.00x1.00 m? I need some to get my gear organised in the basement.

A question for Germany: finally I've found a picture about the BW plastic box I'm looking for. Can someone look for some these (2-4 pieces) until June? I need to know how much is it and where to buy:
