I have 2 Trapac yellow cakes with chocolate frosting. They weigh about 30 oz, serves 18 according to instructions on label. I opened one about 6 months ago and put the frosting on, no problems. The cake was really good. In my research I believe these were from the early to mid 80's, buy still tasted fresh. Anyways, 2 available, I am asking $20.00 each plus calculated shipping, they weigh about 3 lbs including tray and chocolate pack...Thanks for looking..Rich
Note: the photo shows a spiced cake, this is not available. The yellow cake photo/info is identical.

Until ~2000/2001 T-18 came in cans like this:kaptkids1 wrote:In my research I believe these were from the early to mid 80's, buy still tasted fresh.

After that they changed into foil trays:

They also have that 4-digit date of production system like the MREs.
To me, your cakes with (frosting) are out of an UGR (E).

Thats spot on.
Even the type face and nutrition facts box, point clearly to a contempory group ration. They dont come more contemporary than the self heating UGR.
80s and 90s components were not so detailed in nutritional information. The 80s group ration was still of a B ration type, with canned and dehydrated components.
The first T rations were not trialled until the late 80s, with some use in GW1 in 90-91.

Foil trays were intended after 2000, before they had metal cans. So 7142 is May 22nd 2007.
@ norge, it´s not about MREs, it´s tray rations
