Today for Lunch -- #14 - Spicy Penne Pasta - Vegetarian

Post by netboy541 » Wed Sep 22, 2010 3:27 pm

Hey everyone!

So, today I thought I'd crack open this MRE I've had here at work for about a week.

opening it renders the following:

opened

This is a 2008 MRE from what I'm seeing... as the MRE entree has a date stamp that makes me think it was made in 08.

I forgot to take pictures of the Entree, as I gobbled it up not even thinking. Spicy is an understatement. It's a good kind of spicy, but man it sneaks up on you. By the time I finished the entree, I was breaking a sweat sitting in my chair! I downed it with some Mountain Dew I had at my desk, and then all was well. For it being a vegetarian meal, I do find it to be pretty good!

Next up -- Lemon Poppy Seed Cake -- Production # 8318B

The lemon poppy seed cake is insanely good as always. Moist, soft, and just downright yummy. I am always excited to get these in my MREs!

Next up: Raisins

opened raisins

The raisins where pretty good. Very moist and soft and quite tasty, but insanely oily and really, really sweet. This brownish orange stuff was all over my fingers and i had to use 2 paper towels to get it all off my hands. Other than that, it was fine.

I did not mix up the drink mix, but it came w/ Tropical Punch. (one of my favorites, I'll save that for another day!)
I also did not eat the crackers or the peanut butter. I usually save them for another time.

All and all, I couldn't remember if this came w/ a first strike bar, and was a bit disappointed in the lack of "goodies" in this MRE.
There's no chocolate or anything like that unlike the other vegetarian meals, but I suppose that's what the raisins are for. I always look forward to the apple cinnamon first strike (or hoohah!) bar.... Bottom line, I'm freakin' stuffed! Now, let the food coma commence!
A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week. A pint of sweat, saves a gallon of blood. No poor bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making other bastards die for their country. -- George Patton

Good review netboy. Lemon poppy seed pound cake is always a crowd pleaser! I still need to crack open that chocolate peanut butter I talked your woman out of.
