Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern
Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern
Andrew had a live chat tonight, and I was lucky enough to have my question addressed. I had asked about doing a show on MRE's, and basically, he did say they will be doing (or plan to do) "a show with our Servicemen and will be eating "alot of MRE's"
Re: Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern

Re: Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern
They also broadcast Andrew Zimmern over here in Germany.
You will get the "Poster of the Month" award if they realy do it
Great suggestion!!!

Here's a link to the chat archive. I do not know how to snip out what I want, but he addresses the question at 39:16.

Thanks! I hope that he does it too. It would be nice if he did like a comparison, but just to get his opinion on MRE's would cool. We need to get veggie omelet and country captain chicken entrees to him, stat!housil wrote:They also broadcast Andrew Zimmern over here in Germany.

Re: Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern
Good job eman...MREs would seem pretty tame compared to other strange crap that dude eats for the good of the show.
Re: Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern
Thanks. I have seen him eat stuff that while, not very common, were actually pretty tame, like Lychee nuts for example. To most people, MRE's and army rations in general, just by reputation, are quite bizarre, even though to us, we find them quite appetizing for the most part. I would rather eat some of the gross stuff he eats, rather than the veggie omelette tho.Jpak wrote:Good job eman...MREs would seem pretty tame compared to other strange crap that dude eats for the good of the show.
Re: Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern
Amen to that...whoever created the veggie omelet was obviously a little bent.

Re: Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern
I was catching up on some recent episodes of Bizarre Foods, and look what made an appearance in the "Arizona" episode that premiered 5/17:
This episode did NOT portray MREs in a positive light at all. They were downright brutal of them even. His initial comment in the intro to the segment was something along the lines of, "Military MREs have to be able to withstand long periods of time, which means they're pretty much like nothing you'll find in nature."
First he tried the Buffalo Style Chicken. The hillbilly redneck you see on the right of the second picture grabs a wheat snack bread, squeezes a huge glob of cheese on it, then dumps 1/2 the pouch of the Buffalo Chicken onto the WSB. He states, "It's a good thing this is my job or I would be spitting this out."
Next he tried the French toast. Personally this is one of my favorites, and thought it would be better received then the Buffalo Chicken. Instead he comments, "This is the worst one of all." He goes on to say, "It tastes like dough, sugar, and chalk." OK, I believe Andrew is a New Englander. As soon as I saw the Clam Chowder I knew it would not be well received. Hillbilly redneck man makes another appearance, this time dumping an entire pouch of the Mexican Style Corn into the clam chowder. Andrew squeezes the retort pouch into his mouth and looking at both the guys standing around him jokingly says, "I hate you both right now." He describes the Mexican Style Corn as, "...just school food grade bad", but describes the chowder as an old piece of fish that sat on a fisherman's knife. I hope this will not be his last round with MREs, and they will be presented in a better light next time, like when he tried some of the foods at NASA.

Re: Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern
This guy is a character
....he knows crap about food!!!
He only does the show for "shock " value. One time he visited my homeland in the Caribbean (Puerto Rico) and portayed us and our food like we didn't knew nothing of food or cooking.
He is trying to perpetuate that the MRE's and other military foods are crap which I disagree 100%
If the MRE's where so bad and awful then, Why the goverment issues them to the troops????
Is not home cooking but at least they have some thing hot and nutritious to eat on the field and in combat!!!!
Peace!

Look like they are trying to emulate a scene from " GI Jane" when they eat from the garbage can.....geesshhhh
At least Demi didn't whine like this jerk....

I have to admit that this guy is a real piece of work. He does his piece for the Travel Channel or the Food Network or whatever and gets paid for ripping on MRE's and telling us how completely awful they are. What an asshat! If his fat ass was starving I'm sure he want something, if anything to live one including MRE's.
I have to go with Bypah on this. If MRE's are so bad why do they give them or issue them to troops in the field?
