Truth Behind "Men Who Stare at Goats"
Very funny (and stupid, imho) movie, but the book on which it is based is enough to give you nightmares. I recall reading in the 1990s about the alledged paranormal research activities of our military and CIA, as well as those of the Soviet Union. While alot of it was bs or way over-exaggerated for cold war propaganda purposes, some of it, such as the Soviet claims of break-throughs in the area of "psychic assassination" techniques (psychics able to induce fatal heart attack, stroke, or suicidal actions in a target from thousands of miles away) kinda raised the hair on the back of my neck. I wonder if Hollywood made the movie the way they did in the same way that they had to make "Independance Day" with removing accurate info about Area 51 and making it way implausible in order to get the gov't "blessing." Just my thoughts.

rt, you have got to get hold of a copy of The Stargate Conspiracy By Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince. They are well respected UK autor/reserachers. Its the best "history" of this programme, starting in 1953. I dont agree with their overall theory as to its purpose, but they seem to have very good evidence of the start up of the programme, (in the US) and early "directors" and continuation up to the present day.
"They" recruit receptive people "channelers" and attempt to turn them into human recce satellites through remote viewing, to astrally project agents to different locations (theoritically the range is limitless, if the destination point can be determined) and to attempt to make contact with any "other" intelligences.
There is little mention of them trying to "weaponise" the phenomenon.
Its very real and ongoing, IMHO. Hundreds of millions have been spent over the decades.
Uri Geller has been very open about his work with the US govt in this field. Remember that Geller was first "discovered" in 1971 doing a small nightclub act in Tel Aviv. Its likely that the Israeli intelligence tipped off the US that here was an outstanding "recruit"
In these things we should always remember that there are forces and powers in the universe, that quantam physics is starting to recognise as existing, multi dimensions, anti matter, dark matter, etc etc so just because science hasnt figured these forces M.Os out yet and given them a name, doesnt mean they are not there

Re: Truth Behind "Men Who Stare at Goats"
Thanks for feedback biscuits brown! One interesting thing I recall was talking to an army Chaplain friend of mine, who for some reason had a top-secret clearance, and he told me that the movie "Outpost" (Contentfilm International, 2007) was based on information alledgedly captured from the Nazi's at the end of ww2, and which out-lined the sinister occult research done by the Third Reich, including the use of resonators and de-resonators to give a whole new meaning to the term "rapid deployment"
According to this Chaplain whom I've known for several years, the Soviet and American psychic research was based on some of this documentation and in America, there was a high-ranking intelligence officer in the early 1960s who suggested that the study of weaponizing psychic phenomena be attempted first with animals then with people. Very bizarre stuff indeed! (personally I thought Outpost was a rather poorly-acted movie but with interesting plot-line).

Re: Truth Behind "Men Who Stare at Goats"
biscuits brown I take what my Chaplain friend tells me often with a grain of salt, especially when he tells me why he has a top-secret clearance, and the only other detailed info I've come across about weaponizing the research was a Popular Science article from the 1980s which discussed "psychic shields" to be developed for protection of bomber and missile silo crews from a "psychic attack." I'll definately check out "Stargate Conspiracy" though, thanks! The name "Lieutenant Colonel Michael Aquino" seems to pop up alot in relation to this whole subject, he seems to almost be a "poster boy" for it. btw, I looked for the article on psychic shields at Popular Science website, but could not get past issues to come up. I'm positive it was from the mid-to-late 80s, sorry that I can't be more specific.

Re: Truth Behind "Men Who Stare at Goats"
rt, the book SC comes to a similar conclusion, via research into occult groups going back to the last part of 19th and early 20th C. Groups like the Golden Dawn and characters like Madame Blavatsky and Alestair Crowley. Many of its members were "genuine" physcics of the time. Since it was a Europe wide movement some early nazis may have been involved, "allegedly".
But SC seems to be saying it was originally a mind control experiment, but that some elements within the experiment wanted to infiltrate the New Age movement, in order to nip any potential "revolution" in the bud. It may be likely that they are behind this 2012 crap.
I seem to recall Aquino is mentioned in SC. Ive lent mine out so its not around at the mo.
I have no idea what rations these channelers were using though

Thanks for info biscuits! One of my informal hobbies over the years has been the study of cold war weapons systems and some of the pretty freaky stuff that was discussed and de-classified, from American studies of a system to "electrocute" enemy naval vessels at sea to HAARP being alledgedly based on captured Nazi research files.

Re: Truth Behind "Men Who Stare at Goats"
Im pretty suspicious of any "nazi secret weapons" angles that some authors try to slip into this stuff sometimes.
Usually they are whackos or have some weirdo political agenda they are trying to push. sometimes they are both. Or its simple laziness. Lets drag paperclip into it to create some ambivalence. Then slip in nazi flying saucers and Antarctic bases.
Ive done enough on this over the years, and Ive come to the conclusion that claims of nazi scientific leads over the allies, were in the round over exaggerated and misunderstood. Sure lots of 17 year olds all over the webworld believe it, because thats what 17 year olds do.
Things the Germans were good at were rocketry, nerve agents, Infra red, SOME aeronatical research, and small arms. They had lost their tank development lead by 1945, with the centurion and comet and pershing and the new T44 (father of the T55) all going into the field.
Their arty was no where as good as the allies, and most of the luftwaffe planes were obsolete by 1944. A few hundred jets with terribly unreliable engines (3-5 hr life average) dont change that. Some of the swept wing and flying wing designs were useful, but a lot was just on paper, and was impractical.
If you look at the scientific stuff the Germans were not good at, the list contains vital war winning stuff, advanced electronics, including the cavity magnetron, and in medicine and field sanitation.
Jack Northrops flying wing work went back to 1940, and by 1945 was probably the most advanced practical design in the world the YB49. The flying wing B2 has exactly the same wingspan today as an explicit tribute to Northrops work, btw.
Also in the late 1930s the US desinigned an excellent jet engine, the L-1000 . At the instigation of Kelly Johnson and others a fighter was designed to go with it too, the Lockheed L 133. Everyone involved (with the money) freaked out that it was "too advanced" including the USAAC, and it was more or less put on ice. Within 2 or 3 years this lead had been lost.
Bottom line is the nazis (and the German people who were their prisoners) were fighting for their lives, literally. So they thought out the box. The allies would have and did the same.

Michal Aquino is ,or was, involved with the Church Of Satan, later known affiliation with the Temple Of Set, founded by anton LaVey's daughter, Zeena.
Re: Truth Behind "Men Who Stare at Goats"
Interesting topic.
I have seen Michael Aquino pop up usually in those taboloid newspapers at the check-out stand in stores. You know the kind of newspapers that have headlines like Elvis is alive and running around playing banjo music or maybe Elvis still alive-credits long life to eating MREs?
Acquino was/is in the U.S. Army and as far as I recall reading was involved in psychological warfare in the military. Not sure if he was in Special Forces. Have not read articles on him in a long while but I thought it was fake until I read more about him.
The English author who wrote the book really did a good job-truth is WEIRDER than fiction. When I read the book and then started googling some of the items/people he writes about...yikes! It's true!
Anyone read the book and recall reading about that plastic defense device?
