Wow, looks like the Brits have a more sensible approach and right way of thinking when it comes to comuflage than say us here in the US. The ACU seemed to be more or less driven by political correctness and where the fashion trend is going. :?

Those poor blokes where freezing their bollocks off....
Remember, the brits had fought in several deserts around the globe and have desert warfare experience in WWII North Africa. And yes american troops where in north Africa but not as the extent of the brits. The US hasn't had much desert warfare experience until recently. Back in Desert Storm the US military wasn't ready for a desert war. It was more prepared for an European conflict and many units were rushed into with woodland type of camo and they rushed their desert pattern (chocolate chip).
they are still learning from their mistakes...

there seems to modify the draft ACU ...

maybe you have more information

but neither seems the solution ...

I still do not know why USARMY was equipped with ACU  . but for the moon seem ideal camouflage

multicam is not the all-rounder, but it seems more appropriate for current conflict areas.

multicam has a very good campaign, but remember that the spectacular publicity photographs where this seems the best camouflage in the world, are made in environments that encourage and land much your employer. and perhaps, if we can remember the evil thought "photoshop" .. maybe ....

is my humble opinion

Just to make sure, "ACU" is for Army Combat Uniform.

That pattern is called "AT" for "All Terrain".

It´s not the ACU that is crappy, it´s that "gay", purple AT-color. Since the Army is using it, the don´t need any high visibility vests any more...

To me, the AT was designed from some Taliban that made it into the development department...

It's also a way to make your soldiers recognisable.. As US army soldiers..
ACU also works great with night vision.. it camoflages very good at night.. where woodland and old desert camo light up..

But they forgot their modern opponents don't really use nightvision goggles..

It's a good pattern, but simply with the wrong colours
Sure, someone may one day kill me with my own gun.
But they'll have to beat me to death with it because it's empty.

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

Yes, that is the ACU pattern that has been modified for the Afghan theater which I talked about in an earlier post. To me it still looks ridiculous and it conveys a sense of a "quick fix" rather than trying to figure out a sensible approach that will work in all environments. Yes, granted the digital pattern works well with night vision devices and is a bit of a disruptive pattern at long distances but c'mon guys would you really wear something like this? :?
