2007 Menu # 11 Vegetable Manicotti - Review

Menu #11 made by Ameriqual - notice the interior secondary packaging
The wife was away so it was just me and the dog. So that meant cooking for myself, which always ends up in disaster, order take-out, or dive into my MRE stash. So, Let's take a look at a 2007 Menu #11 MRE - Vegetable Manicotti made by Ameriqual Packaging. Typical of the Ameriqual MREs, once you crack open the thick outer pouch, you'll see that all of the contents of the MRE are sealed in a thinner, secondary inner pouch. The double packaging may be overkill, but I like it.

Menu #11 contents
Contents of a Menu #11:

Vegetable Manicotti
Spice Pound Cake
Pears in syrup
Peanut Butter
Crackers
Hazelnut cocoa beverage
Accessory Packet B
Spoon
Flameless Heater
Hot Beverage Bag

Veggie Manicotti
Veggie Manicotti - heated in the microwave, this entree was pretty tasty. It looked like one whole manicotti. The pasta was al dente, the filling was some sort of ricotta cheese mix with what kinda looked like spinach bits, and the tomato sauce was pretty flavorful. You could actually see flecks of italian seasoning in the sauce. Would've been way better with the tasty flesh of some dead animal in my opinion, but not bad.

PB and crackers
Peanut Butter and crackers - always a great combo, and always a bonus when the crackers come out the packaging in whole pieces. Just make sure you have something to drink since PB and crackers are make-your-mouth-water dry.

Hazelnut cocoa beverage
Hazelnut cocoa beverage - went great with the PB and crackers, but not as sweet as I thought it would be. The hazelnut flavor was subtle...nothing that really stood out.
CIMG0078.JPG
Pears
Pears in syrup - tasted like generic store-bought pears in a can...i.e. ate a spoonful and that was it.
CIMG0079.JPG
Spiced pound cake
Spiced pound cake - this was surprisingly good with a real great spice flavor, albeit a bit dry, but still tasty.

OVERALL: All and all, this is a pretty tasty MRE selection for a strictly vegetarian MRE. I kinda wish they'd make the entree larger and leave out the pears or something, but no biggie.

Hi,

thanks for that great review :D !

It is new to me that the contents of the AMERIQUAL MREs DoP 2007 are sealed in a thinner, secondary inner pouch :o . I have only seen that with AMERIQUAL MREs DoP 2005.

You're welcome...glad you enjoyed the review. I have several other 2007 MREs made by Ameriqual, I'll crack those open in the near future and see if the inner packaging is the same. Anyone have any newer (i.e. 2008/2009) Ameriqual MREs that have the secondary inner pouch?
