why dont you just store the 6pack 1,5 liter water bottles which you can get in every store for 1 euro??? its much easier and the water is rationed to 1,5 liter each....

but for drinking i prefer the more individual *bottled* way - like they do:
in the worst case the water can be used for everything else.

Do you store all that stuff for just to have it (like we do over here) or is it as you have such devastating hurricanes and tropical storms etc. over there and really may need it?

We made some "investments" to become "independent" from public delivery (electricity, water...), just for in case of...

I also bought some Bundeswehr 20ltrs. water (jerry) cans and keep them closed and clean. Also I have some water emergency rations...

If the wife and kids evacuated and it was just me staying here, the MREs alone would last me at least a month, eating two a day. I couldn't manage three a day unless I was extremely active. Then there's also what's kept in the pantry, after exhausting what was in the refrigerator and freezer. If I had to, I could last a long time.

Here in Louisiana, we don't keep MREs to collect them. They're emergency supplies in the event of a major hurricane. The rations also get used to rotate them out when working out in the field, camping, and hiking in the mountains (not here but on vacation further north). After a major hurricane, the Army usually brings in water and MREs after a few days to a week. We should plan to be self sufficient for a week or two at most. If the entire family stayed, we'd make that easily with what we have on hand.

Our family does alot of camping and we were spending too much time and money gettting the food together everytime we wanted to go. We have numerous State Parks in our area that can be reached in an hour or less, and we will just take off for the weekend. We can now take off in an hour or so, and don't have to go shopping for anything.

I also think it is wise to invest in energy, food, and water independence. At the very least, it is smart to maintain a few weeks worth of "preps" in case of disaster or disruption in supplies, especially for those that live in urban or suburban locations. My wife and I plan to move further out into the country once our last daughter is off to college, which will allow us even more independence. We also invest in "real" money, as the purchasing power of the US Dollar is being systematically destroyed.

Good point Scotty, The thing I worry about is that if you neighbors see you running in INDEPENDANT MODE, then would they attack your reserves.
I would assume if Electricity went out for more than 3 days, things would get ugly - meaning some people (the unprepared people) would start getting crazy, and if your the only house with lights it would mean you most likely have food and water or at least draw inquiry into that house.
Living further out of town would be better especially if something like this was to happen. A secured basement would be nice.
Well back to the lack of ELECTRICITY. I would thing people would not be able to work so have to stay home, then no gas/groceries can be bought due to no electricty at the pumps/stores, so at least we can have food, water to make it thru a little easier.

Like they say, Anarchy is just 3 missed meals away. Most people have enough food in the pantry for 3 days, maybe even a week.

But eventually it would run out and things would get ugly indeed.

As a matter of fact we do have a basement, which would have to do until we can get further out of town.

A simple gasoline/diesel generator is sufficient to power a small fridge, and other aplliances, space heaters etc... Fuel is most easily stored in the tank in your car.

Of course, if only 1 house on the block has food, water, power, then those who were not prepared will come looking for help or perhaps to take what they want.

If I could help without jeopordizing my own family, I would. If they come to take what they want then I would have to use that "other" item I have invested in.

I must confess I have somewhere hidden in the basement several bottles of spanish red wine (the one known as "tintorro"), a bottle of Cardhu Whisky, another of coffe liquor and a few bottles of "Becherovka" which is a drink in Spain is just impossible to find but these drinks wouldn`t be of much help in case of an emergency .

and you forgot that you will have reserves of these "morcillas" and "chorizos" so good that you have in your land

I could survive only about 3 days rations, or 1 week with the 12 MRE's that I arrived last week, but may have to return them to have an open case on ebay with the buyer (the notice of sale was 24 mre 's only sent me 12 )

so if necessary we will take the motorway to Burgos ...
