hi all
i have an urgent problem with my australian combat ration. the can (diced pears) inside looks very swollen. i am afraif of it can end like with with all those MCI fruit cans i have seen.
should i open the ration and remove it or should i see what the time is bringing?
btw:
NEW ZEALAND ration items are in the UK 24 h MIXED rations from 2006.

the tubed jam, mixed berrys and tubed vegemite (what is this good for in an military ration???)

IF the can "explode", it will mess up your whole ration and the preassure bends the can.
I would open the pouch, take the can out, open it with a tupperware can opener, removing the fruits and reclose the can, put it back. Nobody will ever notice

You can just put the vegemite on biscuits brown (if you've had enough of the pate/tuna/whatever), the strawberry jam goes very well on biscuits fruit, and the dried fruit is just a handy little snack...
I knew they were from NZ due to the makers markings on the tubes but didn't realise they were also supplied in the NZDF ratpacks... They looked more 'US' to me due to the brown MRE-type packaging so I wondered if NZ was making components for US MREs and if we had gotten in on that, what with the Tabasco finding its way into our rats too.

i was a little bit worried about the can so i decided today to "shoot it" with my cal .177. i was already standing 5 meters away but it sprayed more than 7 meters

after the pressure was out i opened it - the fruit was only a little bit smelling and the color was still ok.
pics from the can will follow.
