If you just add a little extra water to the FRH, it's not a problem. But if you add a whole lot of water, then what could happen is that when you stuff the FRH and entree back in the MRE box to heat up, some of the water will work its way out of the FRH and start soaking the box. Remember - that's a lot of steam being generated in the FRH and it's going to push out a lot of that extra water.

If you accidently pour too much water in, just pour it out again real quick (but don't drink it!). You have to be quick with the newer FRHs because those puppies start heating up fast and if you aren't quick, you'll have a hard time stuff the FRH and entree back in the box because it will have puffed up already with the steam.

As for refridgerating MREs....sure, if you have the space, keeping them cold will help them stay fresher longer. But if you have more than a couple of cases of MREs, that's going to take a *lot* of space.

The US military keeps their MRE stockpiles in cold storage.
