A new self-heating meal from the UK

Post by Big Galloot » Sat Sep 05, 2009 9:04 pm

A new self-heating meal from the UK; http://www.firebox.com/product/2486/HotCans

Unfortunately, they don't offer the All-Day-Breakfast in the US. I mean, really, it is SO SAD!

Those hotcans are used by my areas fire department, they have been using that type of self heat meal for a few years and they seem quite popular. They are there just incase its a major event and they can have hot food whilst they are working.

Yep, they do look similar to the SUN MEADOWS can foods. Though I had one two weeks ago and it must have been a older version because even after 45 minutes of heating it still did not get very warm. :?

The website is here: www.hotcan.com - It looks like the sun meadow ones are based on these, if you have a root around their website you'll see the words "self heating technology by hotcan",

I've never given them a go myself though, as the mre heater has given me a strong aversion to lukewarm chemically heated food, and anyway, I like a big steaming brew with my scram.

Thats great, but how much do they cost? 12 pounds per unit? It's a wonder all our English cousins are'nt digging for roots, to eat, like in the Monty Python film, Search for the Holy Grail. We can still get a can of Phillips Beans and Weiners for .80 cents here in America, but I don't know how long it will last. :?:
After the Chicken and the Egg, came the "Omelet"!

 They're actually £4.25, which is still steep, as a typical stew/chilli/all day brekky meal will come in at the quid mark, less for shops-own-brand. Still, it's aimed at emergency services, so maybe not a bad idea in that context, especially if the chemical heater actually works .

I like the look on the guy's face on that website. It's as if he's trying to say, "Yum, this is the best product ever!", while at the same time praying to the heavens that he doesn't actually have to put any of that food into his mouth. :-)
