Thanks for the post and great pictures. I've never seen Korean rations before. Fried Kimchi?

No clue what kimchi is, but it looks very promising
Image
(and no.. they don't come out of MRE like bags like this.. that's one thing for sure  )

The ration looks very nice, but rather small (like the MRE), and it's pretty lightweight for a ration.
Do you get multiple rations per day (like the MRE) or aren't korean people big eaters? :D
(And is the rice meal dried or "ready to eat", because that would explain the weight.. :D )

Nice ration, it looks like I wouldn't complain eating it in the field, looks tasty
Sure, someone may one day kill me with my own gun.
But they'll have to beat me to death with it because it's empty.

Kimchee is fermented, pickled vegetables, much like sourkraut, only with spices and red pepper.
Quite good! :D

Hi, this ration looks very nice indeed :)
I love Asian foods, I've discovered Kimchi very recently but now I could put some in any meal
Cracker, what's on your picture? It looks like nasi goreng!

I could be wrong, but that looks like Kimchee fried rice with egg

I make my own kimchee, its very easy, and very tasty. Make it as hot as you like!

Ok,
I've fried some rice, kimchi and one egg for lunch. The color was not that of Herr Braun's ration or that of your pictures (rather reddish than yellow) but it was really good :P
BTW dirtbag, how do you make your kimchi? It's completly unknown here in Brittany but we have lots of cabbages and I can find some red chili peppers as well...

Well, I cheat and use a packaged spice mix,
http://www.nohfoods.com/Products/koreankimchee.htm

But basically, chopped cabbage of any kind, chunked cucumbers, carrots, onion slices , whatever you have.
I put about 5 pounds into a plastic bucket, add 1 cup of salt and let sit overnight.
Next day, rinse well, add the spices and put into clean jars. Let it sit out until it starts bubbling, then pop it into the fridge!
Spices include ginger, hot red pepper, garlic, again, whatever you like!
It's ready to eat as soon as it bubbles!
Yummy!
