Where????

Post by fdsman » Sun Dec 04, 2005 12:52 am

Hello, This my second time posting on the forum and first in general mre section. I was wondering where you can get real army and navy mre's, not the common man who lives in a city type, but a shootin at the bad guy type of mre, sorry if that's a little bit too werid, but I guess those are the only words I can use to describe it :).

Thank you,

Hi fdsman. There really aren't any "army" or "navy" MREs - there are just MREs - all branches of the US military use the same ones.

If you're just looking to try one real quick, check out your local Army/Navy surplus stores - they usually have a few around but they're often high-priced ($8 each). If you want more than one, then Ebay is your best bet. Prices have been a little high lately, but if you dig around, you might be able to find a case for $50 plus shipping.

Yes, just yesterday I went to a surplus store and bought a chicken fillet I belive, 8 bucks is right. But it didn't come in one of those pre wrapped like candy bar wrappers. I was wondering if I really bought a real mre, or a civilian one.

Thank you,

I you could take a picture of it and send it to me, I could tell you for sure if it was a military MRE or a civilian one.

Sounds like some kind of knock-off civilian MRE.

That would be a civilian. The only time I've seen saltines in an MRE was a civilian version of it. The other give away is the nurti bar. Is the bag clear and you can see the contents in it without opening it??

Nevermind about the bag, I read the bottom of your message and you said it was translucent so that answers my question. That would be a civilian MRE. I have a box of those that I've never touched and they have the same contents in them as you describe.
