Jungle/Tropic/Pacific rations

Post by britman » Fri Jul 03, 2009 10:26 am

Hey everyone!

I recently came across a website http://17thdivision.tripod.com/id28.html which details the British WWII Pacific rations, struck me as a bit odd seeing that I had heard of rations for Arctic/Mountain use before but never anything for Jungle/Tropical use... Until I remembered the new British Multi-climate Rations are meant to be better for the hot summers in Afghanistan at the moment.

This unusual WWII Pacific ration got me thinking, are there other jungle or tropic or hot weather rations in use with other countries, even today? What is the requirement, is it more energy because of the difficult nature of the terrain with everything having to be manpacked? Or all freeze-dried for lightweightness as there is likely to be plenty of water sources to make the food with? If there is a jungle ration have there ever been rations for other climates like desert/arid?

There are a lot of details on that website about other rations as well, such as Russian and American and other Commonwealth WWII ones. Decent site. They also sell repros if anyones interested.

Cheers!
BM
