Long throwaway spoons

Post by alcockell » Thu Jun 25, 2009 8:16 pm

Hi folks,

OK - I'm buying in some pouches from http://www.lookwhatwefound.co.uk... I'm just after some decent throwaway spoons.. just that plastic will be easier to handle (less risk of puncturing the pouch)...

Would your common-or-garden one be Ok - or are there longer ones easily obtainable in the UK?

One sure way would be to measure the pouch (less the portion that would be torn away.)
Don't know what you have in the UK, but over here in the colonies a conventional full sized plastic spoon is about 6" long. The MRE spoon is 7" long. If it looks like you need a longer spoon and don't want to pay MRE prices for them, look for disposable "soda spoons", they're about 8" long but otherwise very similar to the MRE spoon in shape and size at the business end. Much of the full sized plastic cutlery that is sold these days are just as sturdy as the MRE spoons (often sold as "unbreakable".) You might have to check with a restaurant supplier for the longer spoons (again, this is in the U.S. and they may or may not be available in Europe.) The other catch, if you go to a restaurant supplier is that disposable cutlery is usually sold in boxes of 1000. Alternatively, I'm sure the conventional 6" spoon will work fine even with the narrower and longer shape of an MRE entree package.
