OT, that's a good question about when they'll switch over to the 2006 MREs. The answer seem to be "whenever they feel like it". I don't think I've ever seen them switch over on a calendar date, though.

I've always said that MRE years are like school years. The 2003 MRE year ran from about July 2003 to May 2004. The 2004 year ran from June 2004 to March (?) 2005. You just never know - it must all depend on production schedules and inventory of the older entrees. Whenever I'm looking for new-year MREs, it always seems to be a risk buying anything with January-May dates because you never know which year menu it's going be.
