FSR Bacon Chedder Pocket

Post by DangerousDave » Mon Apr 13, 2009 1:52 pm

Now this is out of the ballpark. I never expected this, when I busted out this First Strike Ration sandwich. Actual bacon slices inside, not just bacon-bits, which is what I expected. The pic says it all. No wonder these are .10 cents extra from Epicenter. Date code on this was 9014. Cheese lacking, I tasted cheese, but did'nt see any. Just a mild yellow coating on the inside of the crust. :?

I just tasted this one myself. It was my least favorite out of the four sandwiches. Having actual bacon in there is a nice touch but the cheese just appears to be mixed in with the bread (the cheese is the yellow spots in your sandwich pic above). This leaves the sandwich to be very dry and your chances are high that when you take a bite, you'll pull out a whole strip of bacon and not just a small piece.

Or in the heat of the moment you can also choke on them, if they are the soggy kind  .The way the look are not crispy....
Good to put some cheese spread on it, any kind....

Peace!

No - the bacon definitely isn't crispy. I was thinking for my next Bacon Cheddar sandwich, I'd squirt a packet of cheese spread in there because the cavity that holds the bacon is pretty dry and empty - just fill it up with cheese spread and it'd be real good!

The bacon looks so sad and lonely in there. Don't know why they didn't put cheese inside, guess it may have been too perishable. I think I'm ordering the other 3 and will pass on this one.

Yo guys,

I had this one too this past weekend and the cheese is baked into the bread with a little butter texture to enhance the flavour. Or so that's what the manufactuer told The Epicenter during their reviews of the FSR sandwhiches. I too noticed the big chunks of bacon but thought the bacon was dried out and tastless. All I could taste was the cheese and bread. :?

I must agree with those who say that this pocket sandwich is pretty dry. Not too dry to enjoy, but dry.

For me the answer is mayonnaise. I had a squeeze pack of mayo left over from some other menu and I just plopped on a dollop before taking each bite. The result was a BLT type of experience. The mayo is a good fix for the dryness!

Here you can see the 'cheese'

My cross section.

Like others here, I was a bit disappointed in this one, as I had hopes of a nice cheesy, baconny filling, but alas this is what we get. I had purchased these before seeing this review, so when it came to my turn to eat one, I was thinking of a waste of money was at hand. Like all other rations, I put this unopened in a pan of boiling water for about 15 mins. This seemed to give a more, moistened texture, which certainly helped, given the lack of wetness in the filling. The bacon was at that certain point where its not under done, or crispy, but just starting to 'firm' up. IMO, this actually wasn't too bad in my books, given that for years, I've had tendency to eat bacon sammiches rather plain, so this to me, wasn't something 'new'. For others though, I figure a few shots of cheese spread would make this one better, and more worthwhile.
