Hi,
I don't understand: I see the guy that throws a "potato masher" grenade but the explosion happens just in front of him, not where he's thrown the grenade...

Re: Attack on MRAP
I made some screen shots to explain my guessings:
The insurgant throws a "grenade" towards the vehikle (1.)

At 2. is the grenade with some "bright" what ever, at 3. another "part" that separated from it while throwing

At 4. the grenade is "landing" just in front of the passing vehikle and explode

That poor, misguided guy was throwing a Russian made (what else...) RKG-3 anti-tank grenade.

After throwing, a "cap" is flying away (3.) and a little parachute pops out by a spring to make sure, it will impact at a 90° angle.
See this page:
RKG-3 H.E.A.T.
or watch this (you can often see how they are working):
My question is: Whats "wrong" with the Iraqi security police upper-right ? To me he is just walking there

Re: Attack on MRAP
ah, thanks Housil,
I was thinking the upper flying part was the grenade itself!
Sure it's a RKG3 or its Chinese "AT-type 3" cousin.
I don't think the officer was involved in the attack, he was certainly at the wrong place, the wrong time. Anyway the guy with the grenade doesn't seem to worry about him.

Re: Attack on MRAP
Does the parachut can also be considered to let the explosive blow on the top of the armored vehicle???
After all is a 90 degree angle " L" and if you trow it it can hit the top.....
If I'm not mistaked those RKG- 3 are obsolete, from the 50's
I found this pic with one showing the parachute, which I presume is a chinese copy of the russian original....

Re: Attack on MRAP
There is a shaped charge inside (like in a "Panzerfaust", LAW). So the grenade should hit the target in a 90° angle. If you throw a bow, the grenade comes from above to hit - if you throw it against the side, it will hit it also in that "L" (90° angle).
