Grilled Chicken Breast Fillet 2004

Post by Biltong » Tue Jan 27, 2009 3:44 pm

Greetings,

Recently I ran across this site when I decided it was time to upgrade my emergency supplies for the upcoming Hurricane Season. Currently my supply consist of MRE's that was handed out after Katrina. What I have has an inspection date of 2008. Before finding this site I assumed they needed to be thrown out. The last thing I wanted to do was to make my family sick during an emergency situation.

After reading some of the post and information, and lurking for a few weeks it appears that what I have is still usable. To that end I decided to taste an en tree that I had loose. So I tried the Grilled Chicken Breast Fillet with Rib Meat. Over all the taste wasn't bad, smell and appearance appears to be fine. It has a dry/graining taste after a bit of chewing. Surprisingly it has only 1 gram of carbs! Possible the healthiest I have seen of the en trees at that particular time.

The numbers on the package and the box are 4340. Please correct me if I am wrong but would that not be 2004, December?

Cheers

Welcome to the forums, Biltong! Yes, you have it right on that datecode - that should be December 2004. That chicken breast probably isn't that great by itself even when it's factory-fresh. I usually like to eat with some cheese spread and wheat snack bread.

But looking at that Chicken Breast entree reminds me of another low-carb entree I have sitting around - a Beef Steak from 1999. It's actually sitting on top of a Chicken Breast from 2000 right next to me. Maybe I'll give them a try later on and post some pics.

And yes...for whatever reason, I actually do have 9 and 10 year old MRE entrees sitting on my desk. :-)

Thanks, glad to be aboard.

I wish I knew about the TTI (red label). We have had hundreds of cases thrown away over the last several months here at work!

One of the local Parishes decided to clean out a warehouse (non-air conditioned) and throw out hundreds of cases of Katrina era MRE's. In the past I relieved them of there accesory packs which were still good but I didn't try the rest.

That too bad they threw them all away but since they were stored in that part of the country in an un-air conditioned warehouse, some of them probably weren't good anymore. There's a thread over in the members forum about a simliar situation in Florida where we got to sample some of these "heat stressed" MREs. They mostly held up but there were definitely some parts had gone bad.
