Strange 'British' Ration?

Post by Garron » Sun Jan 11, 2009 9:58 am

Hey Guys

I was looking on ebay a few minutes ago and I found this, I had to buy it as I didn't have a clue what it was :D

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0342648767

It says its a 'British Ration'... by the picture it looks like a mixture of countries
I have never heard of these items in a British Pack before (Lemon Spounge yes its in the Kosher pack)

Items in there:
Mushroom Omeltte
Lamb Tanijine
Lemon Sponge Pudding
Tuna in Light Mayonnaise
Vegemite Plus Strawberry Spread
Tabasco Sauce.
Plus Snacks/Drinks/Sundries

it sounds like a mixture of different countries to me or the MOD has given the packs a major inernational make-over :D  .

Heres the picture
Image

The Tubes of strawberry jam and Vegimite are obviously Aussie. Tan/Khaki tubes like from the CR1M or PR1M
The Tabsco is the Mini MRE bottle
Though the pouches look British. Could be Dutch though from what Housil said they are made by the same manufacturer.
The lucosade gel (Sports energy gel, a thicker version of powerade/gatorade) is quite new only been on the market for less than 2 years. Prehaps its a newer pack, newest I have had it 2005 so maybe 06 onwards? and the sellers just added random items he had spare.
Tuna in Light Mayonnaise- we sell tins of this in the store where I work, its nearly the same size as the pate, possibly civilian.

Should be interesting to see what it is anyway. Even if its a mixture of different packs £6.00 is a good price for a UK pack, thats what my local surplus store sold them at... can't get any at the moment, there we not any at the surplus warehouse at his last visit... reason war in iraq and afgahnistan means they are not surplusing that many now as they are being used more.

If anyone else has any idea where the other items could be from please do tell me.

Just looked at his other auctions, he has the Vegitarian packs for sale. Theres a Veggie pack with the PD of '07 and it has the lucosade gulcose gel.

Prehaps the meals are British after all and they have added a few more

If anyone has a current British ration pack, maybe you could look at the menu on the back of the box and let us know if those contents are from a real ration pack.

But really..."Mushroom Omeltte"? That sounds like a nasty piece of work!

The first thing that poped into my head was it was an MRE entree,
PD '05 is the newest I have seen for sale in the the South Wales area, most of the ones on ebay.co.uk are '05 or older.

I have seen the Mushroom Omlette, Lamb Tanijine and Lemon Sponge Pudding for sale on ebay.co.uk before separatly. Prehaps they are new.

Hey Guys

The pack arrived today, its strange theres no menus listen on the bottom of the box as per normal or on the side where it would undicate which menu, theres no range card on the side. only a packing date, (H) 03/2006. It just has a sticker 5 and Lamb written on in large marker pen.

I've got an exam in an hour and half so I cant take any pictures as I'm doing some last minute studying :D

First look

The Tabasco is definatly MRE, date 6052,
The the tubes and fruit flakes are from New zealand.... the fruit flakes and are sealed inside the brew kit (tea and coffee package) which has all the normal items you would find in there for a british pack..

The mushroom omlette is MOD... it says so on the pack, The Lamb Tajine and Lemon Spounge that says Halal. Eventhough from the list the lemon spounge is a kosher meal? :? Given as theres a H on the Box and 2 meals are halal. I would guess this is a UK Halal pack theres no pate as prehaps halal pate doesnt exist so they used Vegimite and strawberry jelly/jam
Drink is the lucozade powder not a gel as I had first thought.

It has all the items of a UK ration with a few added extras....

This is confusing for me :?

Have i bought some Brit-Kiwi franken-halal-ration? :D

Edit: it has been opened as the seller opened the pack to take the photograph

Yeah, it doesn't look like a regular British ration...but it still looks like an interesting collection of parts!

Thats what I have been thinking, its a mix of parts.

I don't mind, it will all come in handy.

The only thing thats confusing me is the Brew Kit (Tea, Coffee, Sugar, matches, water purification tablets).
It has all the items of a British one (most are the same manufacturer 'Single Soruce') yet with those New Zealand fruit flakes in. Its not a re-sealable bag either.

It has all the basic components of a Brit ration, 3 meals in retort pouchs, buiscuits, oatmeal block, 2 chocolate bars, tissues, hot chocolate, soup, candy/sweets. All thats different is the Tuna in Mayo (I've seen a few auctions with this in and also tuna is a curry dressing)

All thats different is the Vegimite, fruit spread and the Tabasco, and the fruit flakes.

£6 is a good price fora UK pack the added extras are just a bonus, I've seen New Zealand items going for rediculous ammounts on ebay.co.uk

Its the latest British rations. They have started to be issued on exercises as well as ops now. Different menu's, different boxes, "Feeding the Forces" and menu's are on a card inside the box.
