I knew about the german prohibition of any nazi parafernalia and the salute. I had a friend once in college,he was from Kohln. At the time I was learning german and I used to practice my accent by reading "Mein Kampf" and saying "Sieg Heil" aloud in public...well nobody understood because it was in Puerto Rico and everyone speaks spanish.
He was scared and "ashamed" and he told me the ban story....
Now I live in the US and here you see nazi "crap" allover included with the confederate emblems. Only the WWII vets don't like it,but the "pseudonazis-wannabes" a.k.a. white supremacists/racists/KKK think they are the rightfull descendants from those hitlerian goons.....lol
Still I consider the ban ,as a historian to be a lil'bit exagerated

when it comes to militaria and equipement.I have a fully functional Walther PPK(emblems and everything) brought as a war throphy by my late grandpa with a bunch of other nazi stuff. I keep it under lock and key....anyway that'ts life
Have a good one!!!

If that would be the only expression of it
Ever heard of Eve Hermann?
She was for many years the show host of the Tagesschau. What is the most popular TV News show in Germany.
One day she was at one of these late night talk shows.
She said in a longer context one sentence
"the Nazis build the Autobahn today we drive on them"
Next day she must look for a new job.
That’s the today’s political correctness in Germany.

It's getting to be as bad here in the US.

Gosh! I wonder what the political ramifications would be if a US news broadcaster said something to the effect of "The construction of the US Interstate Highway system was modeled after Hitler's Autobahn system of roads when President Eisenhower's was impressed with it's efficiency while he was commander of the European theater during WWII."?

I think I heard exactly that statement on a Discovery/History Channel special on highways. They explained how the US highway system was models after Hitler's Autobahn system. They even mentioned something about how the Autobahn had special turn-off sections at certain points so if a military airplane had to land on the road, it would have a place to turn off/turn around.

This idea was still in use
at cold war era
One is next to us at BAB81:
This seems like 2,3 km of ordenary very, very straight-with-easy-to-remove-center-guard-rail-German Autobahn
but the resting area
was big enough for airplanes to park, turn, maintance...
See
Lost places for this from WW2 untill "today". Pictures of take off and landing A10, C130 etc. from a German Autobahn at REFORGER 1984

That’s the today’s political correctness in Germany.

Not only the Highways MCiera....the helicopters (Nazi WWII Kolibri the 1st ),the jet engines and planes, night vision devices, rockets(Von Braum) ,extra knowhow for nuclear weapons and sadly the advances in medicine due to the experiments done in concentration camps.
Needless to say the hundreds od scientists that where brought to the US to use their expertise

The allies (USA,UK,USSR) they all benefited fron the dreaded nazi war machine.....
