It certainly doesn't come with one of those strikers, FWIW. I have both of those things though. ;)

I always keep one of these in my hiking bag along with a Swedish fire steel, cotton balls smothered with Vaseline, strike anywhere matches and some other fire starting materials.

I have found out the hard way that using only one fire starting tool (especially when you need it) is not always reliable.


But the Doan bar is good when the air is still outside so your shavings don't fly away. And those shavings burn extremely hot and will catch most anything one fire but, it takes a good bit of effort to get a good pile of the shavings. And make sure that your tinder and kindling is ready immediately because this stuff lights really quick, burns white hot and then dies quickly.
