Watch Caps

Does anyone have experience with the new fleece watch caps authorized for wear by soldiers. This watch cap replaces the knit cap.

The photo itself: What material is the watch cap made of?

Is it stretchable?
Is it made of poly-pro?
Or, is it 100% polyester?

I'm trying to figure out if the one I got is a knock off.

It may not prove anything in itself, but is there an NSN & description on the tag? Something like 8405-01-527-5330 CAP, SYNTHETIC, MICROFLEECE, GREEN?

What prompted this question was that the label inside the cap says 100% polyester which I think is a different synthetic material than fleece.

I'd say it's hard to say, the tag looks like it might be a copy of the original. Most caps I have seen are from DPSC and will have the DPSC tag in them. I don't know where this is from, but the caps are made of a synthetic material that is polyester. Also it's quite strechable and doesn't shrink as much as the wool watch caps.

What got me curious was the Fleece. Fleece I know is fleece which has a mixture of polyester in it.

This cap simply states that it is 100% polyester.

The only advantage from wearing it is that it doesn't hurt the ears as much like the wool/cotton hats.

I took a gamble since I'm no expert on Fleece with another more expensive hat of the same type. I was surprised when it came in that it was also 100% polyester. After comparing the two hats the newer brown cap from Insport felt smoother and slightly more comfortable. I could say only marginally.

But the hat was more snug (on my head anyway) was touted as quick drying and had proper labels on the inside which lent more credence to its authenticity. After making these comparisons I've concluded that the hats from Insport are authentic. http://www.insport.com/products.cfm?pro ... discount=0

For Christs sake, buy one somewhere. No, they are not made of sheeps wool. We have this stuff called "polymer" now.

After testing these caps out I've concluded that they are useful but more stylish than functional.

Wool caps are better. Regulations prevent soldiers from wearing wool caps.

Natures Wool has not been surpassed.

Synthetic polymers though useful can't beat God's creation.

I can see why you have the name.

Before I got your reply I looked for a label inside my wool cap. Unfortunately, it did not have one so I did not make any image. That said your wool cap definitely has gone the distance the last 18 years and am sure is still good. Many benefits of the quality of wool.

For those interested you definitely can look around for authentic wool caps. Wool is better than cotton for head gear. Now that the Military isn't buyin' them (big mistake) you may want to grab a few before prices rise.

Keep the colds away. Wear a hat.
