eBay asshat extreme

Post by kman »

Again, I can't stop myself from commenting on an eBay seller who defines the word "asshat".

Check out this auction:

MREs 5 cases Military Meals Ready Disaster Food sealed
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0223466595

Be sure to read his "important note":
IMPORTANT NOTE - These are 100% Legal MRE's - not stolen or old 'off the base' MRE's. Why are these legal? Notice on the pictures of these cases that the usual MRE disclaimer of ''U.S. Government Property, Commercial Resale is Unlawful'' is missing. This means that the commercial/consumer market can purchase and resell these MRE's legally.
Pay close attention to those pictures. Why, he's right!! There is no notice of commercial resale being prohibited!

Asshat.

There's no notice because he carefully cut off the picture from the bottom-left case. Right below "Mullins, SC" is where the commercial resale text is found. Even worse, at least two of these cases have the white RFID tags and stickers the Army uses on their cases.

Here's his pic vs. a real pic of a 2007 case:

The worst part is, no one really cares that he's selling them, and by trying to get around it, it will actually bring more notice if someone was looking for it. Asshattery indeed.

That wording on the cases"Unlawful Commercial blah blah" has been on the cases since about 1994-1996. It's just a warning, against Military personnel attempting to sell pallets and/or truckloads of them. That, my friends, will get you investigated very quickly. I still have to wonder, how that Cajin lady has so many cases to auction. Maybe I should contact the Provost Marshall at Ft. Lee about it. :?

Someone should ask the seller to post a full image of the box :)
As I understand it, the cresent on the box is a universally accepted symbol for military rations isn't it?

there was an urban legend in France saying that the US rations were hallal, as the crescent was the symbol of the muslim religion.
I guess some French officer could have created the myth in 1944 to convince his African soldiers to eat their c-rats

The crescent was used on Civil Defense rations, too.
