Hi,
very interesting.
It looks like the spoon is often chosen as the basic accessory. I'd tough in China they would have supplied some sticks: it's a spoon!
In Western rations the spoon is also chosen. Of course you can do a lot of things with a spoon: eating an entree, eating the dessert, mixing the instant coffe/tea and water...
BUT does anybody know a ration with a fork, fork+knive or some sticks supplied instead of the (universal!) spoon?

Many, many years ago when I was a teenager (we're talking around 1972 or so) a USAF Airman gave me an "In Flight Food Packet" that was sort of like a C-ration. The carton was made of the same type of cardboard that a C ration was, but it was more flat and square than a C ration box and the entire top lifted up as one piece and folded over on one edge (away from you from the bottom of the box if I remember correctly, so that it formed a little cardboard tray of sorts for setting in your lap). Anyway, inside this carton was not only an assortment of canned food, but a rather large silver foil accessory packet, a paper napkin (loose & unwrapped on top of the cans), and a clear plastic wrapper containing the typical white plastic C ration spoon, along with a plastic knife and fork that matched the spoon (somewhat rather short and small --- just like the spoon). I never have figured out what you were supposed to use the knife for, unless it was included to give you something to slice the canned bread with, or to better spread the canned jams or cheeses.
Everything tastes better with Tabasco
