What are you going to to on new years eve?

Maybe run outside of town and "dump" 2 or 3 magazines of tracer in to a hill through my M16 or M4...... Throw in a parachute flare or two and a star cluster, and in the morning, I'm making waffles!.

On new years eve I'll be lighting some DIY fireworks: carbide (like the FRH bombs but on a much larger scale). I finally found out that the FRH uses carbide (it's a rock).

It makes a hell of a blast

and could look like this, using an old metal 'milk can':

I used to make carbide bombs when I was a kid but now it's pretty expensive an very hard to find (speleology equipement shops, a few hardware stores...).
That's really funny, a little bit dangerous, but funny

Yep the carbide bombs are big fun but you definately have to be carefull since the gas it produces is very explosive and ignites easily.

For the interested ones, the chem.reaction =
CAC2 + H20----> C2H2 + CA(OH)2
Calciumcarbid + water ---> Acetyleengas + Calciumhydroxide.

quality carbide (1 kg) produces about 300L of gas.

here in NL if you purchase it at the right places I think you pay around 7-10 euro for one kg of carbide. Not expensive I'd say.

For me, mostly try and venture outside in/around my neighborhood after all the fireworks, gunfire, and sirens last night.

You should have heard it around my place in rural North Carolina last night. It sounded like a battlefield. No full-auto weapons as near as I could tell but tons of ARs, AKs, and every type of pistol was being shot off. I stayed outside and listened for a few minutes but decided to duck back inside before any of those rounds decided to come down near me. :-)
