That's cool. I think I have one or two like that. They're probably chinese knock-offs and not real DDR stuff, but that one looks like the one in my collection.

i dont think so. why would an original esbit from VEB orbitaplast which was made 20 years ago (looks and smells like that - the plasic is crumbling) be i am reproduction oh china from today??? normally its sold without the esbit. that was the only stove which esbit.

and the guy i bought it from is a military saler. so i dont think this is not original.

Wow...so that's 30 stoves and esbit for 20,00€? Too bad shipping would kill it for us in the US, but if you're in Europe, that sounds like a pretty good deal.

I got a couple of those about 10 years ago, they were being sold in a surplus store as "German" with no mention of it being from the pre-unification eastern sector. They had a lot of DDR military stuff back then that was being sold at surplus stores all over the country at the time. Chances are that they ones that you got are probably real. The one in the pictures that German_EPA posted are defintely real, at least the fuel package looks like the real thing.

Quite honestly, I don't think that even the Chinese would bother making knock-offs of those

no stoves - only the esbit. the big blocks with 14 gramm.

i calculatet it with german shipping costs.

1 packet of esbit = 80 euro-cent

1 stove costs here at the local shop 95 euro-cent (used i have to say..)

Ah, well there you go...now you can see how far not speaking German and only skimming a German auction you can't really understand can get you. :-)

And yes, I apologize in advance to all the non-native English speakers out there for that last sentence...I can barely understand it myself. :-)

Those are cute! Thanks for sharing German_EPA.

A question for those of you who own this type of "stove" --- Do they work well? (I've never owned or used one myself).
Everything tastes better with Tabasco
