What is Iran trying to prove?

Post by CCD » Fri Mar 30, 2007 7:03 pm

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but Iran detaining these British sailors and soldiers really does piss me off, and I'm not even British. How do the rest of you feel about this situation?

I don't think you have worry. The UN issued a letter expressing "grave concern" over the over the seizure of the British sailors. If Iran doesn't get in line, you just wait and see what the UN has in store for them:

1. A letter expressing "very grave concern"

and if that doesn't work:

2. A letter expressing "very, very grave concern"

and if that doesn't work:

3. A letter expressing "very, very, very grave concern".

There is no end to the amount of "very's" and the amount of letters that the UN can send so Iran may as well throw in the towel right now and give it up.

As a Brit myself it is a sad state of affairs that the sailors and soldiers are being used as a pawn by the Iranian government, I also read in a news article that Ahmadinejad played a large role in the US embassay hostage taking in Tehran, so you can tell he is one for playing games and thumbing his nose at anyone he pleases to.

Kman is right, the UN ceased to be reckoned with by anyone but very small countires a long time ago. Iran knows this and is milking it for what its worth. As for why Blair went though the UN, I do not know, he must know as well that the UN are not going to do much more than wag its finger at Iran, and the diplomatic equivalent of a kindly old person wagging their finger and scolding Iran as if it were an errant child is pretty much worthless.

As for what will happen, Ahmadinejad will try and wind up people with it for as long as he can and drum up support from anywhere he can if/when military force is used.

Psh.. this is just what Bush wants.. now we have an even better reason to take offense to the first thing that Iran does to us, we already know that the UN doesn't work, the brits tried that way, see? So we can just escalate it to full scale war.. of course, in war you need a goal, like conquer their civilization and force yours upon it, or loot the hell out of their country and leave. The american problem is we don't have a plan, just go and attack because we don't like them, and there's just no way to win that. Sure we can completely obliterate everything we don't like, their nuclear plants, their armed forces, but that just leaves even more countries hating us, which will sooner or later lead to something very undesirable. Hopefully the next Democratic president will be better than Bush, but Osama Obama, and Hil-dawg are hardly good choices.. I'm all for Biden, but then again, I don't think that anyone is a good choice, we need to elect someone with no background in politics, or from a level lower than the senate/governor. Whatever, as long as I get my AR-15 before they ban assault weapons again, I'm not too concerned, I can defend the hell out of myself, and my family will be fine for a few months if food runs out.

Oh well, maybe the Iranians just want a little bit of respect. But they probably won't get it by stealing soldiers from the British. I am absolutely not a big fan of the Iranian government, but how would the Americans feel if Saudi-Arabia and Iran were waging war in Mexico?? I guess most US citizens would be rather worried. That's exactly how the Iranians are feeling now with a bunch of US soldiers in their backyard!

What's wrong with Hillary?? She seems the perfect woman to me. Attractive, intelligent and most important, she has forgiven Bill's little mistakes. :o My wife would not have forgiven me! :(

Be carefull out there!
