Inspired by this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5583&p=52667&hilit ... ger#p52667

as well as more recent threads, I thought to myself "Hey, I with a little ingenuity and hard work I too can can ( :D ) a burger for survival rations!

So I did:

Raw materials:

Now, I'm not (that) stupid. I know that dairy products are among the first to go in rations, so I used plain burgers instead of cheeseburgers, just to be safe. In deciding which burgers to can, I was torn between White Castle, which are smaller and you can fit more in a can, and McDonalds, which fit my chosen container (an old coffee can) and are notoriously resistant to spoilage. So I used both:

I allowed the burgers to cool, so moisture from condensation wouldn't be trapped in the can. I wasn't able to fit all of the White Castles in, but the McDonalds burgers fit quite snugly, as you can see. I then tossed some salt in, because salt historically is used to preserve meat:

I then was able to reverse the valve on an old bicycle pump and evacuate the air from within the can.

I then sealed the can with our old friend, duct tape, marked it with an inspection date, and stored it in a cool dry place, in my garage between the motor oil and starter fluid.

And that's all there is to it. I can't wait to open it in three years to see how they're coming along!

There is no way this can go bad.
You eliminated every possible way for food to spoil.

Please specify which toppings you would prefer, and inform me of any food allergies.

If this goes well, I'm thinking of canning Lasagna next.

You should put few napkins between the lid and the duct tape

Awesome, haha. I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes. Maybe you should can a side of fries to go with it.

Would it be possible to do Filet O Fish or would you need a square can?

From what I've read on this board, fish lasts longer when packed in oil, so i'd probably squeeze a few into a round can and fill it with vegetable oil. Remove, blot the oil with a paper towel (or dead leaves if you're in the field) and enjoy.

I guess they will spoil as you still have germs at the can from before, at the burgers etc. but lets see.
