Also this year I was at the Military Camp at the Infantry School of the Bundeswehr
They had a nice camp site at the training area
We set up a nice place for us
Note the 1984 German Army VW Beetle of forums member "jubifahrer"
So after set up our place, time for lunch from a MKT (mobile kitchen trailer)
BBQ
My lunch
Me & jubifahrer walking the next morning for having breakfast
Best weather ever to have breakfast in front of chow tent

The next meal was lunch, made from different rations
Heating water for
Freezedried scrambled eggs / bacon
Heating a French entree on it´s cooker on a shovel to avoid to burn the grass
As we heated water anyways, lets have an "Erbswurst" pea stew too
The soup out of the French ration (it´s French "Poisson" means fish and not the English for a toxin

)
French entree and soup
The opened pouch of the freezedried eggs
Using my fork to close the pouch while reconstitution...
The pea stew (soup) with a slice of canned EPa bread as "starter"
The eggs ready to eat:
They were great! I can highly recommend them.

Next dinner was a traditional German dish: Goulash with bread dumglings
The dumplings already in salted water, they need to soak before cooking
Open the 2001 Bundeswehr goulash cans
Me, the chef in charge, cooking 15 years old goulash
Dinner from UGR trays
Having dinner from my just bought (€30

) US Army foldable field table
Who wants a bite?!
Have a walk in the camp...
Nice cars everywhere
Even from Switzerland

I´m very happy I got that gadget from parafireboy
Perfect opportunity to give it a try, open the pouch
pour the hot water
Having breakfast
Crisp rolls
After the breakfast, driving into the German Army Training area, briefing drivers first

The column enters the training area in a huge dust cloud
All kind of vehicles
The column in front of the (urban combat training) village "Bonnland"
Dispatch rider, doing traffic controls
Driving over a tank layer bridge
Nice "display"
Real military offraod
Driving 20km crisscross the training area and doing offroad lessons

Returning from all that driving and eating dust, we had lunch...
Another favorite gadget, heating rations while driving:
Me & jubifahrer, having MRE lunch
After a little excursion I´ll
tell about later, we had MREs again for dinner.
The 2005 chicken w/ noodles were still great
but I didn´t ate the pineapples. The looked "odd", dark and something white had seperated
Dessert was a Danish bar
No idea what this is
It was "soft" with a fruit and nut (?) flavor/taste. It was "OK", but I wouldn´t buy it in a regular store for money
Evenings...

Our last breakfast...
Buddy Uwe the chef in charge, frying bacon
Me making scrambled eggs
Pour the eggs over the bacon
Eggs with rye bread, buttered and jam
Nice US truck
Ready to leave...
A very last lunch while driving home "somewhere"
In WW2 in Africa, they fried eggs on tanks just from the sun. Trying to warm up an entree the same way...
Bye...bye...

So here is the non Military, non-Rations excursions part.
There was Germany´s second biggest castle ruin pretty close so we did a little trip to that place. We drove the way,
Hitlers Autobahn "Strecke 46" was planned. You can still see the remains.
The signs say "Planned Strecke 46 "
"Strecke 46" towards the
castle ruin "Burg Homburg" (I can highly recommend to visited that page I linked, very great virtual tour!)
Had to walk...
Entering the castle where the drawbridge was
Built in 1038 - so almost 1000 years old...
Walking towards the outer baily to the inner baily
Remains of the chapel
Note the thickness of the outer wall! My buddy is tall 6,3 ft (1.9 Meters) so the walls where 6.6 feet
Kitchen, knights hall and 4 story main house
Note the clearance of the door, how small/short peoples were back these days
Each "notch" holds a wooden beam where the floor was made on so you can count 4 stories here
I hope you enjoyed it, I took 500 pictures and it´s always hard just to share a small selection.
