Ok, so right now we have a humongous advantage in worldwide communication, and one form that has really popped up thanks to the internet is Television, and especially Non-Local Television. Growing up we were no stranger to the British shows, because that was one medium PBS could afford to draw from.
Growing up, our Saturdays consisted of Saturday Morning Cartoons, then the adults would watch cooking shows (Julia Child, Justin Wilson, and others) while we were "out playing" and us kids would be back in the house in time for the saturday nite Britcoms and Dr Who. I guess thats why now that we have worldwide access to Tv, I have really embraced it.
My wife and I both like watching cooking shows together, and two of our favorites are The Great British Bake-off, and MasterChef Australia. Personally, I've really enjoyed BlueStone 42, and Ultimate Force from the UK.
So, I'm curious. How many watch what could be considered Non-Local or Foreign tv shows? Something you can't watch locally, maybe even from the other side of the world. And, what's some of your favorite shows?
question about the telly...
Re: question about the telly...
I watched some British Television shows on regular US Networks Benny Hill, UFO, Captain Scarlet, Sting Ray., Secret Agent Man (Danger man in England) Avengers, World At War
I could not understand what was going on on the Dr Who show, the flying telephone booth was to much for me to swallow
For Australian Shows I watched Skippy (The Bush Kangaroo)
For Japanese Shows Astro-boy, 8th Man, Ultra Man and Johnny Socko and his flying Robot
.
Also they showed the Italian Hercules show dubbed in English.. I liked that
I liked watching the made by US Army show of the early 1960's The Big Picture. Each week it would show some aspect of the Army.
It might be the NATO commitment in Germany, Advisers in Vietnam The Helicopter and how it is used. Or how the Army feeds it's troops. I was fascinated with the Tan cardboard boxes full of canned food.

TV!! Outside of MREs, my second-favorite subject!
I definitely watch a lot of non-local (non-US) television shows. Most all of these come from non-cable, non-broadcast sources (=the internet)...but tops on my list are:
Dr. Who ('live" as it airs in the UK)
Downton Abbey (don't ask)
Apprentice UK (love it!)
Amazing Race Australia, Canada
Law and Order UK
Black Mirror
Sherlock
Multiple BBC Documentaries
Big Brother UK (Mrs. Kman is a *huge* fan)
Broadchurch
Top Gear
Life on Mars

Re: question about the telly...
We don't watch a lot of TV, but when we do, we enjoy a pretty eclectic mix of programs, including some Brit programs. My wife loves Dr. Who, so I'll watch it with her once in awhile. She also watches "Keeping Up Appearances" from the UK, so I'll watch that as well. I've seen Downton Abbey a couple of times, and thought it was pretty good.
I've got a nine year-old, so the usual programming in our household is anything from Pixar, haha .
