Guy´s, I took a couple of pictures of our last weekend that dont´t fit into just one topic, so I post it over here.

I had to fetch some 2014 cases of MREs, so we met somewhere for a little camp night.
Just the roof of my tent as a gazebo, we had temps up to 97F... The "canopy tent" made from a parachute canopy British mosquito tents inside.

Opening a (new) French RCIR New to me, the muesli Beef with carrots Due to my buddy "Chris", the best ration dish he ever ate. Chris was so amazed about the dish, he ate the second one too right after it... The liver pate he ate also same with the asparagus creme soup

Great pics as usual, my stock of French rations are running low at the moment, however a very good friend will be visiting me from France next month with a good sized consignment for next season on the show circuit.

Great pics housil, I'd love to do that some weekend but no extra cash for rations lately. One thing I meant to ask you, how popular is powdered coffee creamer or mixing coffee and cocoa powder as a hot beverage where you are? Many people I know who trained with West German forces in the field during the 1980s told me that they rarely noticed anybody using the creamer, just sugar or black with nothing added.

Interesting photos, I like all that West German gear, the Enders and Flecktarn camo. I can smell the canvas and rubberized fabric right over the Computer screen The old VW THING I guess is the same or close modern decendent the WW 2 version right? Kublewaggen?

I too would like to try the Beef and Carrots! Looks like a tasty supper (if I had some German Bread to go with it, no MRE crackers for that entree )
You can keep the French asparagus creme soup. I will take their word it is rich and creamy, But the asparagus is best eaten raw.
Also the U.S. MRE burger looks pretty good Made the same sandwich on a camping trip, just added McDonald's Ketchup and Heinz Yellow Mustard. Not bad for a Military ration

It´s an "individual thing". I like to have some "coffee mate" with my coffee, but usually we use real milk if do you drink it "sweet & blond" (= with milk & sugar).

The Thing is the grandson of the WW2 Kübelwagen.

When I was first introduced to MREs, by a friend who had just got out of the army in 89, he always did something I found interesting. He would save the cocoa beverage powder when he got it, then would mix up what he called "camp coffee." he would fill his canteen cup up about 1/3 to 1/2 full, let the water get hot, then dump in a coffee packet, the sugar packet, creamer packet, and the cocoa powder and stir. He said that that and the chocolate covered cookie....it was the best thing you could have for breakfast while in camp.

I enjoy making this myself now, but have wondered why i've never saw anyone else talk about it.

What an awesome camping setup in such a beautiful setting. It's pretty hot in Florida right now too. I don't think it hit 97F too often, but the high humidity sure makes it a muggy hot here.
You also have a nice looking group of lucky friends with you! I love Flecktarn camo - looks really cool and it's pretty darn efficient!
I think I have a couple of those MRE Pork Patties in my stash - I know most guys love them, I think they taste good but they are kinda low on the protein content i.e. Fat/Protein ratio.

Looks like some fun times all enjoying the beautiful weather, nature, and eachother's company whilst eating some good ol' MRE's and that RCIR is a nice one! The French sure can do it right - I have had 2 RCIR's and I must say, I absolutely loved them!

I had Beef & Carrots French RCIR too! I think I have photos as well! I will check in my archives right now.. hope it's ok if I share my own experience of it on your thread here - but I can certainly agree with your buddy Chris, it is a fine dish, and I would love to share my experience of this specific RCIR Entree here now that it's really on topic. I must say Housil, if I ever get another one of these I will have to save it for ya because it's really good you'll have to try it someday!
That beef gravy tasted home made, the carrots tasted fresh not canned and they had a nice firm texture, and of course, the beef was delicious - nice hunks of meat and not overly processed or pre-formed like MRE entree meats.

Thank you for sharing these awesome threads on the Off-Topic Housil! I have really enjoyed all of them, you have been having some really cool adventures and sharing photos of not only great Rations and camping setups, cool German Military vehicles, and beautiful scenery, but also the historic landmarks and history.

As soon as I get my hands on another Chocolate Covered Cookie, I am making some Camp Coffee & pairing those 2 together like your buddy did! What a fantastic combo I'm sure that we can all agree could be a MRE lover's prime camping delicacy!
