Re: My new cooking book...
That is awesome housil! M*A*S*H* was and still is one of my favorite TV shows growing up and now, even with Hawkeye's and real-life Alan Alda's far-left political beliefs. I recall all the funny comments about the food and even when I ate MCIs during my first year of national guard service I still think I was more lucky than Hawkeye, Trapper and those other poor souls!

Re: My new cooking book...
You will have to tell us if there is any secret Army cooking information in the book.
I remember one episode where Hawk-eye and Trapper John complained their rations (Beans) had WW 2 dates. That would not be secret information

Was that the episode where Hawkeye has the beans and Klinger looks at them and says "hey these beans are from WW2" and Hawkeye says "right, they're has-beans....."? then in post op the can blows from being on the heater and Hawkeye is wiping them from Hot-Lips' face.
Re: My new cooking book...
During my early days in the military, (1968-78) many things were of WW2 vintage.
I saw a case of 'Boneless beef', dated 1943...
All of our ammunition, pistol, Rifle, Machine gun AND the 5 Inch (127 MM) ammo for the main guns was all WW2.
My first two ships were built in 1943, too.
I guess I'm considered 'Vintage' now, as well, I was assembled in 1949...

Hey Housil,
I'm a little late to reply on this, but I wanna say that looks like a really neat book!
You gotta share one of Igor's recipes with us! Maybe even make a dish (maybe leave that up to Mrs. Housil.. hee hee
) and show us how it turns out!

Lucky me me cooking skills are more that just frying eggs and warming up rations.
My dad is a master chef and I grew up in a restaurants kitchen

What you said about your cooking skills housil, you could have been assigned as a cook in the Bundeswehr although I believe you said you served as a medic yes?
Re: My new cooking book...
I joined EMS 10 years after military service.
Back in the 80s, we still had conscription, they draft you to what ever they need you, usually no matter what you have done before.
After highschool I went to metal school for three years, after that another two year to eletronics and after that - became a paramedic.
So I have three compleded vocational edjucations.
By now , I´m happy I could watch my dad cooking every day get some lessons taught as a kid I really benefit today while cook "real dishes"
