Good choice on the Garand, mine is without a doubt the finest rifle i own. Well built with a rock solid action, never jams, and deadly accurate. Not to mention the only centerfire semi-auto that can legally hold more than 5 rounds in Canada

I'd like one, but I'm not willing to spend that kind of money on it. For $400 I'll pick up an AK and not look back. I'd post a pic of my new SKS, but I mean, c'mon, they're all the same, so I'm not going to waste space.

The best advice that I have heard is if you are only going to get one Garand get the most (expensive) you can get. I choose the service Grade which is now $550 is was a few year ago $400 then $500 and now $550. These are the best “regular” Garands they have. There is Collector and Correct grades but those go for $700-900. These tend to be more of a collector’s item than shooters.

The Service grades should be very solid shooter and not have excessive wear at the muzzle. Field grades are a little worst that the Service grades but still should have plenty of barrel life. The rack grades are a roll of the die it is said. These should be good for parts but the barrel will more than likely be in bad shape. People buy these with the intention of converting from 30-06 to .308. This seems like a good idea and is not much more than replacing the barrel and having a spacer prevent someone from loading 30-06 ammo. Also you can just replace the 30-06 with a new one.
I’d advise you to get your order in now as supply it seems is coming to an end, at least for the Service grades and above. There is a wait for the service grades as they are becoming scarce. I have to wait two months for the rifle to be found. If you are close enough you may pick your own rifle from one of there stores.

The CMP website has a lot of info and they have great customer service. I got a1903 rifle a while ago and it had some issues a broken sight and a cracked handguards they sent me replacement parts at no charge.

Think of it as a investment. A real piece of American history. These Garands will only go up in value. That said I still love my AK-47 (sar-1)

I just got my Garand it's great. Get you while you can.

I bought mine thru DCMP about 20 years ago,looked to be either brand new or a rebuild,the parkerizing was unmarked.Paid $ 140 as I recall.Helluva deal then AND now!!

The Garand shoots like a dream too. I just found out the other day.
