Ration eaters from around the globe give your opinion:

What is your favorite military wool blanket?
Are there some blankets better than others? Warm and useful or too thin and useless?
Hairy and scratchy blankets to keep you alert?
Soft blankets for a peaceful night?

I have noticed over the years in the civilian market wool blankets disappearing from stores over the years...fleece blankets and polyester blankets seem to be the trend...just throw in the washer and dryer and use.

I had never use them outside, but we use the German Army one´s even today in civil protection and they are still in use with the German Army as regular blankets for their beds.

I´m not a big fan of any fleece clothing as I bet they don´t stand the next 50 years like the 1965 blanket I have, also they cause static charge and whenever I touch something I get an nasty electric shock

Us has a couple versions all work well, Italian ones are nice too, havent tried too many others.

They are the most cost effective way to get a wool blanket i have found.

I like the heavier ones for sleeping under the stars, but nothing wrong with a fleece liner on colder nights.

That German one housil posted looks nice

I slept under them for ten years, US Navy grey.
The only thing (ok, thingS) wrong with them is they are very scratchy (no top sheet), and if you are enlisted, they were old and thin.
In the winter, the air conditioner worked very well, and when it got hot, the A/C didn't work at all...
If you were an officer, you had nice thick new blankets (two, and a top sheet...) and your heat and A/C worked well.

I have no idea what is issued these days.

I have a blue USAF wool blanket..They were made in the 50s I think. It is scratchy and as for warmth it's ok.

All I had at Lackland were various shades of gray. Couldn't tell you how warm they were, because I was there in the summer and never needed more than the sheet. Thickness was luck of the draw from the laundry, and with them being laundered a couple of times a month I'm sure they thin out pretty quick. Since then, the only kind I've seen have been the green variety but never actually in use, mostly as emergency fire blankets and the like. The few times I've been issued any kind of bedding were either actual sheets & blankets (think hotel/hospital) or a sleeping bag.
