I was just wondering where the quote in your signature comes from. I also found it here in someone's comment on a YouTube video, but it doesn't appear anywhere else on the internet. There does not appear to be any record of a General Heyk or a General Tim Heyk and the position General of Special Troops of the USA has never existed. I found one other spelling with the quote on a twitter post (Heik) listing him as General of the Air Force, but there is no record of a man with that name in that position either. I'm wondering if it's a translation issue or if perhaps it was something a Russian paratrooper commander made up to get his men psyched up and proud. Are you familiar with the history of the quote?

No, I, unfortunately, am not familiar with quote history. But I am familiar with our Russian officer serving in Kosovo, in Yugoslavia ,1999-2002. Also I heard from the first sources that praised heroes with whom the American military show in movies, actually not such, to put it mildly and heroes.Well... I won't go into detail. And not to confuse anybody it is more, the signature I will clean, and that we will swear.

"Urban legends" rise from "...somebody wrote it somewhere in the internet..."

Just to clear things up, I wasn't trying to start an Urban Legend fight or anything I'm just not familiar with any US Generals speaking so favorably of the Russian military and was wondering what the origin story happened to be. I'm not quite sure how that devolved into asking me for my insight on some of the sillier laws passed (and for the most part all repealed) in the US since the quote I was asking about had nothing to do with laws.

You missed a fun one though - in Montana it was legal to fire upon any group of seven or more Native Americans until just a few years ago. It was called the War Party law and it was assumed that any group of Natives of that size was "raiding" or preparing for war. Thankfully there were no modern instances of someone trying to actually act on the law while it was still on the books. It was a leftover from the Indian Wars that have been over for more than a century.

I just thought of an example in reverse. Many many people in the United States believe the following is an actual quote:

"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass." - Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy

I've met people that would swear on all things holy that it was a real and accurate quote. The thing is, it isn't. The Admiral never uttered or wrote those words according to any record whatsoever. The Admiral's aids, and even folks on the US side had records of many things he'd said and there are definitely quotes that are historically attributed to Yamamoto, but that one is popular mainly due to it spreading over the internet without people bothering to verify. Considering there were plans to take portions of the US mainland and considering that there was an outpost and occaisional fighting in the Alaskan territory (it wasn't a state back then) I'm not so sure how that one got going in the first place. The Admiral was not deterred by our preparedness.

No need to apologize! It´s an "modern thing" peoples always believe what they read "somewhere in the internet" and start to copie/quote it. That´s how "urban legends" grow up.
I´m with you - I like to proof if such saying´s are real

As for General Heyk, I think It's a mispelling.

There IS a General Haake, who was in the"US Special Operations Command" and recently retired...
