Hi Everyone

So, I used to wear a pair of the M-1951 Trousers, Shell, Field for about 10 years, but it became bad and badder over the years, so i had to buy me a new one, which I got from ebay, cause i really liked the style of this trousers. Paid about 45$ plus 25$ shipping to germany, but after 4 months of wearing, its zipper break. BAD - not good quality. made of cheap thin nylon, breaks right there, where the stiches are.

The zipper in my old trousers is made of very thick and strong cotton, neary unbreakable, manufactured by PRENTICE. The zipper in the new trousers, the one with the cheap nylon, is manufactured by TALON.

Can anyone confirm that TALON was an original manufacturer of these zippers???
I think maybe most of these trousers available on ebay are replikas???

Please post any further information, thanks.

Olli,

I've worn clothing with TALON zippers before and never had a problem with them. I don't think TALON zippers would have broken on winter shell pants like yours seeing as how the company has been around a long time making clothing. Also I don't think it would be a replica, the more more knock off copies would not have that brand of zipper, more like a modern YKK zipper. Have you tried to GOGGLE the name by chance?

Olli,

especially in vintage US military equipment and also uniforms (M65 Field Jacket, Extreme Cold Weather Parka,...) TALON meatal zippers often very used. I also have seen SCOVILL, SERVAL or GENERAL metal zippers, and never had problems with those brands, they are all four heavy and very good quality :) . The new plastic VISLON zippers made by YKK are not so good by far :( !

Just some question: Which size of the field trousers do you need?

So long mreheater72

I need REGULAR MEDIUM size, but i stopped smokin some months ago and carrying some little extra kilos since then, so maybe I am right on the edge to X-LARGE MEDIUM.

Well, I was thinking about givin the trousers to a tailor to get the broken zipper replaced with a "Klettverschluss", maybe this will fit.

Klettverschluss {m}
Velcro ®TM
hook and loop fastener

I would just sew it up by hand, or replace it with buttons.

Olli,

Just take it to the tailor and have the zipper professionally done and have the sides re-inforced or double stitched.
